The Gazette will increase the price of weekly home delivery by 25 cents effective Sept. 4. The price of a seven-day home delivery subscription will increase from $4 to $4.25. A portion of the increase will be allocated to carrier profi t. Weekly combo subscriptions, which include a 24/7 online edition, will rise to $4.75. The combination three-day print and 24/7 electronic edition will increase to $2.50 weekly with the print priced at only $2. Single copy prices will not increase. Increased operating expenses and a challenging advertising environment make the price increase necessary, according to Dan Beck, general manager of the Gazette. “Advertising revenue shifts continue to make for a difficult environment for printed newspapers. Even with the increase, the Gazette is one of the lowest priced home-delivered newspapers in the Capital Region and remains a great value. The coupons in The Sunday Gazette alone will pay for your subscription,” Beck said.

I guess this is possibly due to the free papers they are handing out for no reason.  For the past 2 Mondays, I have woken up to having this bird cage liner sitting on my front step, and I'm not subscribed.  Maybe the local carrier thinks there's something in it I should look at.
