SCHENECTADY -- How do you get kids interested in science when they're outside all morning at a summer camp? Make ice cream, of course.
That's what the Scotia-Glenville Children's Museum did for one of its many classes at the Schenectady Schools' County, City Outreach Recreation & Education Camp. The camp was held over six weeks between June and August in Central Park for city students ages 8 to 14.
This was the fourth year for the camp, but the first time the museum could conduct 30 programs, thanks to $3,500 provided by the Times Union Hope Fund. The museum was one of 10 organizations in the Capital Region this summer to receive assistance from the fund, which raises money to help pay for after-school and summer-camp programs for at-risk and underprivileged children.
