Recently, while driving on Nott Terrace in Schenectady, I went by a young women pushing a baby stroller in the street. She wasn’t crossing, but was pushing it in the curb lane, parallel to traffic, and there was a perfectly good sidewalk not 10 feet away. Well, this wasn’t the first time that I had seen people in Schenectady walking in the street rather than on a perfectly good, or even brand-new, sidewalk. So, it got me to pondering the question of why would they do this? Could it be that this is merely an assertion of power by individuals who have no other power — an “I will make you notice and avoid me,” statement. No! People are far too smart to choose significantly riskier routes to their destinations for themselves and for their infants just to make a statement to absolute strangers. Or could it be that these are individuals hoping for some minor incident with an automobile so that they could retain a personal injury lawyer to “get them what they deserve.” No! They know that the negligence bar is made up of scrupulously ethical attorneys, who would never take the case of someone who deliberately chose a risky alternative when a safer one was equally available. Then, it dawned upon me. These must be people who have no experience in the use of sidewalks. Where could they have possibly come from? It’s a “no brainer.” Niskayuna has no sidewalks! So, spread the good news. The city of Schenectady is being gentrified by an influx of people from Niskayuna.
The police should be arresting those pushing strollers in the street for endagering the welfare of a child. It's just plain stupid to be putting your child into a very dangerous situation.
See this all the time and sometimes the "mother" will have toddlers trailing behind : ( If you beep your horn you get the "look" I know this happens all over the place but very prevalent on the hill. I told my car insurance agent we should get a discount for defensive driving.
I can understand in the winter walking on the side of the road especially when sidewalks are icy, but this is year round.
At least this person was walking on the side of the road. Most of the time they are 'in' the road or crossing in the middle of traffic where there is no stop light or stop sign.
Perhaps these folks are from a third world country where there are no sidewalks or CARS!!!! I can't believe that they are just plain STUPID!!!
Although some just may be from a third world country where they also do not have indoor plumbing.......cause there are many that pi$$ and poop on the sidewalks!! YUP.....saw it first hand!!

So let 'em use the road where people drive while talking on phones, texting etc at 40 mph on city streets. Then they can get their lil heads smashed in with brain matter splattering the pavement. We won't hear the screams over the rap music. Sounds waaaaay safer. Are you kidding me? WOW.

I hope your not another fake ' concerned citizen '- you know someone that sounds like they care- but is a poser . There is a lot of puke on the sidewalk and it is very slippery - dont slip and spill the bucket of pus your carrying around
