I'll see West Side Story when a local high school does its production this year.

It cost over $1 million dollars a week to run the production of Spiderman - West Side Story isn't even running a week at Proctors and has the same ticket prices?

I'd rather a production with a web-slinger rather than hand my money over for the salary of a  bloated blowhard.....

If anyone is "ill-informed", pray, enlighten us with some facts and figures. I never see any, and I've been looking. Road companies know what they spend on food and lodging. Local businesses know what they make on a particular day, to the penny. Let's see a real cost/benefit analysis, with real numbers.

that is the problem madam.........the taxpayers are supporting and keeping proctors afloat and paying a ceo $200K who  lives out of the city........and yet the taxpayers NEVER have seen the balance sheet....NEVER!! It's not like it's a private business.......it's a non-profit being propped up by the taxpayers.

Judy Atchinson has some real-life experiences to share in her blog today. Rather than "negative" and ill-informed" I'd say she is worldly, cultured, and
bravely trying to save some kids nobody else cares about. This is just up the road from Fort Downtown, the New Stockade.
The other agency she mentions as causing problems, would that be Bethesda House? Was it wise to move that near so many kids?

The DEMS admit they make up figures on attendance, jobs and economic benefits and their dupes in the press spin it as real news. Here's an economic "benefit". Disney rented out The Parker Inn at reduced rates during its run. It was since a great benefit, such tremendous "progress", that The Parker Inn went belly up right after.

There's no crime Downtown. The City DEMS have made "progress" over the past 35 years of one party machine rule. Hamilton Hill/Mt Pleasant/Vale are experiencing "renaissance". Proctor's is vital even though they refuse to get any skin in the game and take a block of businesses off City tax rolls. When you "understand the importance of high taxes" anything is possible. As stated in the Gazetto.

joebxr, that was funny. At least I hope it was funny. It could be true, for all we know.
They took out a business to move that Bethesda House nuisance just up the road also. A minority business, no less.
According to campaign literature, downtown has been fixed and "the neighborhoods are next" which to me sounds like some kind of threat. The fixing they already did in the Vale neighborhood just involved a lot of paving and the removal of mature trees, they can't wait to get the trees out, someone should tell them shade is good for the environment. IMO it was a diamond in the rough in there and it was made ugly by the project. Destruction over restoration.

Well, he's right about the smaller part. The DEMS will do to the neighborhoods what they did Downtown? Open another tax free theater. Tax free coffeehouses! These Mr Magoo's can't even see vacant Jay St directly across from City Hall. It's renaissance cause the village idiot say so.

Fact is, the City of Schenectady has no right to give away property to connected businesowners. The City has enough non-profits and for-profit businesses should not be operating under the same tax exemptions.

This type of criminality has destroyed the tax base and it will continue to do so for decades!

From what I have heard -- Spiderman (the musical) sucks ---   I wouldn't waste my time or money to go see it.
But Westside Story is one of the classic musicals ....  and Proctor's is the finest theater in America to watch such events.

High School performances are great, too --- but that is no substitute for the marvelous experience of watching a time-less classic Broadway musical at a time-less classic gem of a theater - Proctor's.
