In his remarks to the crowd at SCCC,   Governor Andrew Cuomo used the phrase or theme  of "working together works" a number of times.   That is because every rational, reasonable person knows that working together works and it PRODUCES RESULTS.  The tremendous improvements made in Schenectady over the past 8 years have inspired Governor Cuomo, Lt. Governor Duffy and  ALL   New Yorkers.

And don't worry -- Mr. Gillen will stay have a major role in shaping Schenectady County's involvement in the Capital Region Economic Development Council.   All rational and reasonable persons recognize the tremendous job that he has done in Schenectady County and appreciate his efforts.

....... tremendous improvements made in Schenectady over the past 8 years ....

What improvements?    Tell us DV.

Improvements to the condition of the roads?
Improvements to the condition of the sewers?
Improvements to the condition of the watermains?
Improvement to the trash collection services?
Improvements in  the government schools?
Improvements in the quality of life?
Improvements to the swimming pools? (PLURAL)
Improvements in the parks?
Improvements to collecting from tax delinquents?
Improvements to code enforcement?
Improvements in the police department?
Improvements in the lowering of one of the highest taxed cities in the whole damn couintry?
Improvement in the property values?
Improvement in the ability of people to sell their houses?
Improvement at eliminating blight in the neighborhoods?

Oh yes, there are improvements.  Improvements in the bank accounts of the rich politicallly connected dems and their crony developers, taking from the poor and giving to themselves by operating socialist businesses?   Yep, your buddy Morrris, he had improvements---he got tons of money from the financially struggling people who can't sell their houses, and he was able to by an expensive hotsy totsy house as far away from the city has he could get.  Improvement to Morris' quality of life, living away from the crime and filth and hig taxes of the city.  And Golub, Galesis, the Hiltons, Paul Mitchell, Malozzi family, etc, oh yes, lots of imporvements for them, lots of tax money lining their bank accounts so they don't have a financial worry in the world.

Well, DV, tell us what are the improvements for the homeowner in the neighborhoods who are paying the taxes of the rich?

Here he goes no answer because he can't provide proof of his statements that Schenectady has improved.  He just spews the crap that the dems tell him to, he can't think for himself, he can't tell us what improvements have occurred over the 8 years---FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE!!!!!!!

And then his excuse for not providing an answer is that people on this board "insult" his family when all we do is provide FACTS by virtue of PUBLIC RECORDS

By the way, DV, the state is in financial crisis.  People can't afford taxes, The infrastructure is in a shamples, and you cheer for more handouts to the rich.  Uh, did you notice that all the dem handouts in the past 2.5 years has resulted in an increase in debt frm $500 billion to $14 trillion, increasing unemployment, increasing prices of products at stores, a massive handout to homeowners who then lost their homes anyway, handouts to people to by cars---and that did NOT help lower unemployment nor help the economy one bit, handouts to people to by appliances---again, which did not help lower unemployment and did NOT help the economy one bit.

Cuomo has only been working together with connected cronies and millionaires. Bashing the state employees who actually work for us, keeping his father's patronage appointees on the payroll. Maybe the "working together" part means the Pataki patronage people he kept on.
What have we achieved in Schenectady from all this? I'm still waiting for some real numbers from Lion King.

Everyone just laughs at the nattering nayboobs whining in the corner --- no one takes them seriously ---
they have never done anything to help improve their community .. get their kicks out of tearing their neighborsand community down ---   the only time in their life when  the nattering nayboobs will do anything to benefit their community  is when they finally  kick the bucket or move away.

No ones laughing when their tax bills come in. As a matter of fact, it's somewhat sad to hand out so much money to the City when our schools, neighborhoods and police force are in shambles.

If the DEM solution is to pour more money into the tax-exempt ghost-downtown, count me out. At least I pay my taxes, can't say the same for any Downtown businesses or even the City for that matter.

All these insane projects are funded with my taxpayer money - as well as many of the other people who post on this site. Put your money where your mouth is DV, oh and Morris could do the same.

BTW, our Governor has said on MANY occasions that the taxpayers (homeowners) are not ATMs and that local governments should stop using them as such.

Unlike you, DV, most people have been doing stuff, they have been paying through the nose, even risking losing their homes beause of the taxes.   Of course you wouldn't know this since you are NOT a taxpayer, but those of us who live in Rotterdam aren't affected to the extent people in the city are.  Again, you of course would not understand, but downtown is in the CITY.  Those of us who are taxpayers in Rotterdam pay for it in our county taxes, that is, WE pay county taxes on our own homes AND we pay the county taxes on the downtown properties, and contrary to what your girlfriend said, the county taxes have increased, we have the tax BILLS to prove it.  But the town and the two school districts in town do not charge property taxes on city properties.

But we do plenty.  How come you were not in the over in Central park helping with the summer lunches?   We do things like the food bank, work on Habitat houses, etc.   And people who live in the city and are at risk of losing their homes to tax seizure I'm sure do plenty too,.

But one of the most important things people in the city, and even us outside the city, is to work to improve the community by making sure that people can actually live in the neighborhoods and be safe and have vital services provided by the city.   Helping the community does NOT mean being a cheerleader for higher taxes on the homeowners.   Helping improve a community does NOT mean cheerleading for exempting millionaires from having to pay taxes while homeowners are at risk of losing their homes.

And so, the MOST IMPORTANT thing to help Schenectady---the city in particular---is to make sure that every single homeowner in the whole city knows that their taxes pay for all the for-profit businesses downtown, to make sure that they know that milioniares are exempt from paying property taxes while the homeowners struggle.   It is important that every renter understands that as the city hands out more tax exemptions on the millioniares and politically connected cronies, that the struggling good landlords have no choice but to increase their rent.   Serving the community also means insuring that everyone be informed how bad the roads and rest of the infrastructure are because the city government has taken the peoples money and used it on downtown projects, handouts to milioniares; to inform homeowners that they are being double taxed on their trash collection, and to see how all the other NECESSARY AND VITAL services to the citizens has been cut as money has been given to downtown.

You see DV, while it's NICE to have a theater, a theater is NOT going to provide medical care for people, a gin mill is NOT going to cover the cost of Nimo bills for city residents, a hotel is NOT going to result in better plowed roads in the neighborhoods. etc.

The negative stuff is real, it CANNOT be swept under the rug and pretent it doesn't exist---which is EXACTLY what YOU want DV!!!!!!!!!!!!    The citizens of the city have a birthright entitlement to know the TRUTH, so that they can eliminate the socialist crap and vote against anyone who is raising taxes on the homeowners in order to give the money to millioniares.

Again, DV, you CLAIM to be a Catholic.   Would Jesus take money from the homeonwers and give it to the millionaires?

Speaking out against corruption is not negative. The free-for-all happening in Schenectady has happened in other troubled cities, people who are not those you can fool all the time are concerned.
Where are some of the hard numbers for Lion King?
Carpetbaggers are pillaging our city to get their hands on free government money.

1 person like Mr. Morris is more valuable to our community and has more POSITIVE impact on our community than 100  nattering nayboobs.

Thank you Gov Cuomo for keeping these horrible County DEM working together morons off this new commission. Everyone is laughing at Death Ray and Minnie Mouse aka {Judy DAG}, who both received pies in the face. Mercury Morris doesn't believe in night deposits, can't run a coffeehouse and doesn't have a clue what's in his own safe. Maybe the tea party did it?lol. We want business leaders like the Dakes of Stewarts not proven failures who can't keep a governmental gin mill open.

Unfortunately, you need the 100 to pay their taxes in order to support the failing Metroplex projects and the $100k+ salary of Mr. Morris.

Like you, Mr. Morris chose to live out of town and still does not pay his school taxes as well.

Good role model.

Well, I'm sure the invite was for the "Mayor of Schenectady" and the Governor most likely forgot about the lob job Stratton already started.

Mr. Morris isn't part of the community in Schenectady. What is the positive impact because of him? He invented Proctor's? I don't think so. He didn't invent Lion King either. What exactly is he doing that he isn't well-paid to do? How is he worth more to a community than its residents? A man who doesn't know a burglary from a hole in the wall?

Back to the thread -- this Economic Development Council is a great opportunity for Schenectady County and - I predict - for the Town of Rotterdam.
