An atheist group has filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent a cross made out of World Trade Center steel beams from going on display at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. American Atheists sued this week in state court arguing that the group opposes the placement of the cross in the museum because members believe it is the only religious article getting special accommodation there. The cross, made of two intersecting steel beams, was found standing in the rubble of the World Trade Center following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
"This cross is now a part of the official WTC memorial. No other religions or philosophies will be honored. It will just be a Christian icon, in the middle of OUR memorial,” Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists, said in a release.......................>>>>.....................>>>>...................http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43902747/ns/local_news-new_york_ny/

If they're truly athiests, then wouldn't it go to prove that they wouldn't think that a cross would mean anything, therefore, this would just be two beams from the WTC that happen to meet at an intersection in the middle of the two beams?  If they do truly see this as a cross, and something that means much to those of the Christian faith, then the fact is, they must at least believe there is some validity to the Christian theology to think that it should not be there.  In essence, by fighting against this, they are proving their own beliefs false.

Atheists think about God every waking moment of their lives, it seems.
Since when can't you have articles of religious significance in a museum? These people need attention real bad, I think. There should be some kind of twelve step program for people with an inordinate need for attention.

IMO, any taxpayer funded endeavor that has a religious theme is a violation of the 1st amendment.  Christian or otherwise... There should be no taxpayer funds spent on any religious project.  A Sept11th museum is fine.  A religious Sept11th museum isn't.

Most atheists seem to be attention whores and here is just another fine example. If I'm not mistaken this is the same militant atheist group that spent close to $30,000 buying space on city buses and trains saying there is no God and other things, so much for forcing your views onto others

So if instead of an atheist message, had they spent that $30,000 on Ron Paul advertising space on city buses and trains, Would They Be Forcing Their Views On Others???  Or is that different?
Sounds like freedom of speech to me.

I'm just showing the hypocrisy these atheists show, they always claim that the religious try to force them into believing but here they are doing the same. Not to mention this is nothing but a show to them to stir up a hornets nest, who spends $30,000 to post ads in something they don't believe in, I don't believe in unicorns but I won't go around and spend thousands on ads to tell people that.

And you bring up freedom of speech but didn't you just say no religious tone should be used on anything tax payer funded, so does that mean atheists shouldn't be allowed to post there message on public transportation either?

If posting on City Buses and trains is a business transaction open to all... then of course they or any religious group can buy advertising space, or even Ron Paul advertising.  If the city limited the business to one religion, then I would object.

This just goes to show that there are crazy atheists out there, just like there are crazy christians, muslims, jews, and goat worshipers...... If these atheists and christians really thought out their logic, wouldn't this cross show that there is no god? I mean everyone in the towers was innocent and died, yet god did nothing to stop it and to top it off decided to be an a-hole and left his business card? The atheists should be supporting this being shown, and the christians should want this melted into scrap!

I guess God is OK with a few thousand people being snuffed out in a blink of an eye.  God could have intervened... but God doesn't work that way.
Miracles are such old school!

The last time God worked a real miracle was the Red Socks in '04... before that... The Red Sea.

~ I keep buying LOTTO tickets just in case God has an urge to preform some minor miracle... HEAR THAT GOD?  I'M DOING MY PART... HOW ABOUT IT??? ~

Wouldn't we also have to remove any statues of Buddha, etc. from art museums, and so forth? Museums exhibit objects without making any claims for any significance they might have to the viewer. If you want to censor a museum, you are editing history. There WAS a "cross" at the site, therefore a museum can portray what was actually there. Mention or portrayal of religion doesn't violate anything. Are we forbidden to note that the perpetrators were muslim extremists? Some would have it so, but that would be altering history.

Religion is part of culture and both are acceptable IN a museum.  However, a religious icon atop a building, such as a cross or a star of David has a religious significance.   The Sept11th attack against the WTC was a POLITICAL attack, not a RELIGIOUS one.

Some Americans look at the Sept 11th attack as a Muslim attack against the USA.  I consider it an Al Qaeda attack against the USA.  Those same people wouldn't look at a lynching by the KKK as a lynching by a Christian group, even though the KKK were Christians.
Both Al Qaeda and the KKK represent terrorism, not religions.

The kkk represented a 'race'....white! They were pure racists radicals in their actions. Muslims are not racist radicals.
