It's an election year.....what'd ya think?
I'd like to know the 'exact' stats since every private business person I've talked to said revenues are down and they are s-l-o-w!
And sb says it encompasses the 'entire' county...Nisky, Glenville, Rotterdam, Duanesburg, Princetown. STATS?

Now, readers, just remember, it is NOT from people flocking to Schenectady to buy things.   First of all in the city, there is nothing to buy.

Now, just remember people, the Schenectady sales taxes come from purchases made OUTSIDE of the county.

You pay sales tax based on where you live, not where you are buying.

MC1 is correct and that's why when you buy things no matter where you are the stores always ask you for your zip code.

I don't believe that is always the case. My girlfriend buys her cars from a dealer in Saratoga and she pays Saratoga tax. I could be wrong, but that is what she told me.

If you buy a car in Saratoga County you pay the higher Schenectady County tax. Same with appliances, furniture if delivered to this County. An increase {if any} is caused by inflation and the explosion in gasoline prices due to national policy.

Obviously,  MC is a moron when it comes to basic economics --- so here is a simple explanation for the ignoramus  --- Sales Tax is collected when a person purchases a product or certain services. If the total sales tax collected GOES UP .. that means that more goods (and, in some cases, services) were purchased.   Escpecially since the total went up 12%  -- which is waaaaay more than the rate of inflation (so the idiot can't use the argument that the amount collected is only up because of inflation).

Oh -- and I am pretty sure that a significant amount of those sales tax revenues were generated by the numerous Metroplex financed projects which have opened and serve to create jobs and generate sales tax revenue.  All those folks going to  the Proctor's, Paul Mitchell Salon,  the Recovery Room, Bomber's,  etc.

The Renaissance is picking up steam.

Again -- a certain person is ignorant about sales tax --

if one buy groceries or clothes in Albany County -- Albany County gets the sales tax .. the county where MOST everyday purchases are made gets the sales tax

cars, appliances, some bigger ticket items -- the sales tax goes to the town

OH -- and why they ask you your zip code at places like Office Max or Party City  (2 places that I know do that)is to track where customers are coming from (for marketing purposes)    -- it has NOTHING to do with sales tax.

If this is true, it is fantastic news.

I wonder though what drove it...

I'm of course a bit skeptical - because I see more and more houses boarded up, or for sale, and not a lot of news on new (non-taxpayer supported) businesses opening up...  While a number of businesses are closing (not tons, but some)...

Wait - I take that back...  Actually a lot of new businesses are showing up all over - new bodega's.  It's not uncommon to see 2-3 in a 2-3 block radius.  At least in the densely populated areas.  It's amazing.

So does that mean Sue Savage paid her sales tax on her signs in Pennsylvania or she she pay it in Schenectady County? Could you answer that? Because is her campaign has it's nexus here in this county then she owes use tax on it in Schenectady County, not Pennsylvania where they came from.
