SCHENECTADY
NEA chair touts developing power of arts

BY DAVID LOMBARDO Gazette Reporter

A rock star’s reception was bestowed on Rocco Landesman, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, who delivered remarks to around 250 adoring fans at Proctors on Friday afternoon.
Providing the high note for the five-day League of Historic American Theaters National Conference in Proctors, Landesman delivered remarks about using theaters and the arts to drive economic development and generally improve the area’s quality of life.
The crowd was immediately won over when Landesman said, “I’ve been going around the NEA lately saying, ‘Here at the NEA, all the arts are equal, except theater.’ ”
He credited Proctors with playing a large role in the revitalization of Schenectady and said this example shows a national trend.
“I’m going to do what I can as chairman of the NEA to highlight that and make that case,” Landesman said. “I think Proctors and downtown Schenectady itself mirror the history of theaters and cities all across America.”
He added that one unique difference in the case of Proctors is that it provided garbage collection on the block at one time. Landesman said, “Proctors is dedicated to … fully being a citizen of the community.” ......................>>>>.......>>>>.......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00102&AppName=1

Obviously the dems are desparate.  THey are extremely worried  and must be paying the gazette for these stupid stories.   It of course does NOT say how Proctors has improved the quality of life.     With all the theft from the financially struggling taxpayers, and the loss of vital city services, poor roads causing damage to houses, the huge increase in crime, people unable to take a walk to a corner store without fear of getting murdered in the store, children unable to play on a playground without being murdered in daylight, well that is what the use of taxpayer dollars given to Proctors has resulted in, a quality of life that is causing the people to flee the city in droves, wait, people ATTEMPTING to flee the city---the FACT that vurtually no one is buying  house IN the city, especially after sitting for a year on the real estate listings is reflective of this.

Proctor's is a nationally recognized treasure.   Thanks to the hard-work of so many people over the past 30 years.

Howver, DV tell us what HOW this nationally recognized treasure helps the city?   Tell us how it has helped benefit the homeowners and their taxes.   Please tell what has happenhed to tax bills over the past 30 years, can you do that?   Oh, of course, you won't answer because you have no understanding or knowledge about property taxes, and you have no clue in the world what the effect of all this spending has been on the homeonwers in the city.

Tell us DV, how many people have chosen to buy homes and move into the city thanks to all the spending on Proctors?

Tell us DV, tell us what effect Proctors has had on the property values in the city in return for all the spending of taxpayer money.   Tell us DV, what has happened to the property values in the city?

Tell us what effect Proctors has had on city services?   While the spending has been on Proctors (and downtown), tell us what spending has been done on the roads in the city?  In return for spending money on Proctors and the other private businesses, tell us how the infrastructure in the city has improved?   Well????

Got any answers to these questions....along with documentation as proof?     Oh, now you're going to be speechless because the only answers you could provide with proof will prove that nothing good has come out of that spending.

The truth hurts, doesn't it

I thought it was all hell until the democraps gained complete and utter control 8 years ago?

Proctors is the largest recipient of taxpayer money!! Proctors/morris have done NOTHING on their own merit. NOTHING!!

Proctors can not sustain itself. People call that a FAILURE....not a SUCCESS!!

A failure refuses to believe they are a failure and spend all their time tryig to convince the world they are a success.  To do this they must identify other failures as successes also.  Thus DVOR (a failure) touts the Proctors as a success........

Certainly the surcharge in taxes used to prop (no pun intended) up Proctors far outweighs any economic benefit to the community.  Sure it's a national treasure and of historical significance, but it will also be historically significant when we look back at how the City residents were driven out of their homes because of the taxes used to support the theatre.  It's really a shame how the City resident has been devalued not just economically but as a society.  "Let them eat cake!"

If it no public money had been invested in Proctor's and the "400 Block" --- none of the other improvements in Downtownand in other parts of the city ---  would have happened.   A number of developers were inspired to invest in Schenectady after coming IN to Schenectady to see a show at Proctor's -- and seeing the potential in Downtown and the county as a whole.

Proctor's is a HUGE part of the successful Renaissance begun in Schenectady County --- but still only a part -- and much work still has to be done.   But we are on the right road -- every penny spent was worth it.

Proctors and all of the other tax exempt, plex loaned, county buybacks, taxpaid relocations, and give a ways are sucking the life blood out of the residents!!

Crime is still rampant, shooters are still on the loose, gangs control the TWO hamilton hills, it's still the drug capital of nys and beyond, people are still pissing on the sidewalks, the county is still the highest taxed in the state, housing values are declining rapidly, vacancies are up, ya can't give a way a ge plot house, dss bldg is busting at the seams and the roads are deplorable.

For anyone to think that proctors has improved the quality of life for the city residents is delusional at best!!

Who? Please name these alleged improvements. Just the opposite has happened-so much money has been flushed on the 400 Block of State Street that EVERY other City business district AND Suburban business districts have fallen. How's Rotterdam Square?

Proctor's has brought more people Downtown but they leave right after the show. Still want a lobster pizza? It is time for Proctor's pony up with a Stratton fair share PILOT as Boy's and Girl's Club, Union College and Ellis have already done. Cut the BS. Do it for the kids-as part of your educational "mission"-lol.

IF no public money was use, then property values would be MUCH MUCH MUCH higher and the taxes would be MUCH MUCH MUCH LOWER !!!!!!!

If  no public money was used in downtown, then the city would have spent money on roads, crime, sewers, snow plowing, and GEE, DV, the homeonwers would not be paying TWICE for trash collection !!!!!!!

If public money wasn't spent on downtown, then more people would be living in the city paying taxes, there wouldn't be so much vacant housing, there would be less places for vagrants to hang out and deal drugs.

If public money was not spent on downtown, it could have been used where people live, in the neighorhoods.

So, 10 yrs from now, IF the dems are still around giving handouts to millioniares, I guess you still still be shaking those pom poms cheering for hiking taxes on the homeowners.

How much do you want to bleed the homeowners??????   Huh?

DV, this wasn't public money given to little people who want to start a small business.   DV, explain WHY do YOU think it is necessary to increase the taxes on low to lower middle income people to give handouts to a Forbes billioniare?????    Tell us DV, WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY can't he pay for his own building and taxes?

THe Hampton Inn is part of the multi billion dollar Hilton.....DV, are you going to DARE say that it was financially necessary to make the financially struggling homeowners with household incomes of the typical lowly $30,000 to give it to a multi BILLION chain?????   Huh???"????    Explain that DV.

So, I guess you think it's better that homeonwers lose their homes to tax foreclosure just so the rich politically connected get their millions.

Tell us DV, you CLAIM to be Catholic, but tell us DV, tell us, would Jesus take money from the poor to give it to the very very rich?????   Just answer yes or no.

I'm struggling to think of a single downtown improvement that wasn't partially funded by the taxpayers.

In other words, is there any evidence whatsoever that the handouts to all those businesses has led to a company relocating down there that did not get a handout...  That it was driven by the "revival" of the area?

The two cheer leaders can lie make up facts and carry on all they want. Things are much worse in the City than 8 years ago. Taxes have skyrocketed, schools are a Statewide disgrace, the City can't repair roads, pay the schools or County for all it's foreclosed houses. It's so bad right now that people are walking away from houses just to avoid the taxes.

No buyers so run-follow disgraced DEM "leader" Cousin Vinny over to Saratoga County. Land of 7% sales taxes. Land of County taxes one quarter that of Schenectady County because of the DEM morons chasing out every business and job producers. Then these idiots wonder why unemployment is so high. Another pocket park, another failed condo project that no one wants, another Proctors DEM moron in elected office-that should turn it around-lol.

There aren't any. And it's worse than that-how about projects fully funded by the Metrograft bozos that never materialize? Like The Big Hose. Then we can name dozens that were announced and never happen. And more that get 100% tax give aways. It's all a con job.

Nobody cares what some NEA moron thinks. NEA should be defunded. We need to get government out of the arts. The art they produce is useless rubbish. Like Nazi art fit only for the dumpster. Expect more of this type of "news" as more and more are laughing at Mercury and demanding that this clown pay something back to the raped County taxpayer.
