The story about the Nott St former DSS building included information about the current DSS building, owned by Galesi under a phony name, includes the following excerpt:
Quoted Text
The county relocated DSS operations from 487 Nott St. and Schaffer Heights on Nott Terrace to the former Schenectady International building at 797 Broadway, which Galesi owns. The county is renting the 47,000-square-foot building for about $16 million over 20 years, a cost of $16.99 per square foot. It has an option to buy the building after 10 years
How many readers see the ripoff of the taxpayers?
The building is assessed for $3,341,600. So WHY, can anyone explain WHY the taxpyaers are being robbed to give Galesis $16 million over 20 years?
Official records show that, amazingly, this IS a fully taxable property, no exemptions. Further, the records show that the annual city/county tax bill is just over $61,000 per year. It doesn't list the school tax bill, but just about double it. Use $120,000 as a starting point. Take this scenario. If he combined prop & school taxes on this building increased by $10,000 each year for the next 20 years, the total combined taxes that would be revenue to the respective governments would be $4.6 million. So, over the 20 years Galesi would realize a handout from the taxpayers of about $11.4 million.
If the county owned it totally right now, true, there would be no property & school taxes on it, but the savings to the taxpayer would be that $12.7 million dollars based on a sale price equal to the market value of the building, which is the assessed value of $3.3 million.
If the county pays rent over the first 10 years of half that $16 million dollar agreement to steal from the taxpayers and give to the rich Galesi, and we presume they pay $8 million in rent over that 10 years, how much will they buy the building for if the county exercises that option?
I mean WHY would a county, who is entrusted to provide basic vital services to the taxpayers at a reasonable cost, why would such a county pay $16 million in rent for a building that is only worth just over $3 million? Why would the county frivolously spend the taxpayers money by paying spending roughly 5 times as much for a building as what it is worth?
I can see DV now, reading this saying "huh, what's that say" Then he will start with we are being negative. DV, I guess YOU think it's better to spend $16 million of taxpayer money for something worth only $3 million? Why do you oppose the taxpayers knowing the truth
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
PULEEZE!!! Do you honestly think that dumba$$ loser can even understand what you have presented? He will spin it as negative, exactly, and try to inject his stupidity to make it sound like you are wrong in your evaluation. Let's face it, you are talking about a person of less than average intelligence and even less ability to reason, and wanting him to comprehend something more than "I'll take 2 Big Macs, Large Fries and Large Sprite.....and super size it"
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!

Exactly as I have said. When you see a lot of new construction alongside vacant buildings, it is somebody connected getting their hands on free government money. I feel sorry for the poor DSS employees, what with that dreadful parking lot and crappy new building. If anyone ever deserved an upgraded work environment, it was them.
Only DV doesn't notice the same three or four business owners are in on the act. Only a self-deluded blind fool wouldn't see there is some shady crap happening every time you look at these Mplex deals. This has become Chicago East.

Well, to be fair, you can call the $11.4 million the fee the county pays, is for the buildings maintenance over the next 20 years, which Galesi is responsible for. But...Even at that cost, it still averages out to $570,000 per year or $47,500 per month the county pays for Galesi to maintain that property. Sounds high to me, but I don't know if the County could maintain it for cheaper. I'm not a commercial property manager.
