Guilderland town clerk steps down from officiating marriages
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - The Guilderland town clerk knows about the new same-sex marriage law in New York, but is not planning to marry any same-sex couples. Rosemary Centi sent a letter to the town supervisor letting him know she has a conscientious objection to officiating a wedding between two men or two women. She will remain as town clerk and issue marriage licenses, but the town will have to find someone else to serve as a marriage officer. Last week a town clerk in Broome County resigned from her post for the same reason.
