Thieves break in to Proctors

SCHENECTADY — Proctors’ main office was burglarized Sunday, sometime after the last performance of “Mamma Mia!” according to Proctors officials and police.
Thieves gained entrance to the second-fl oor office in the former Carl Co. building by smashing through wall. Workers had repaired the wall by 3 p.m. Monday.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris said he reported the burglary to police. “What a terrible thing,” he said. Morris said he was not sure how much was taken from the offi ce. “We are not positive yet,” he said.
Morris said Proctors has had thefts before, but nothing like this.
Sunday was the last day of the six-day run of “Mamma Mia!” and it is unclear if thieves targeted the theater for that day’s receipts.
There is a security camera in the building, but Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett said it might not have been working.
Police also don’t know how much money was taken. The lack of information has left them stymied.
“We have no suspects,” he said. “The theory is someone may have stayed in the building when it closed.” .......................>>>>......................>>>>.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01107&AppName=1

I'm sure glad we have those non-working cameras all over the city to aid the police in catching the criminals.

I'm sure there was a million dollar grant issued with taxpayer money to obtain these cameras as well. Guess now Morris knows how violated the taxpayers feel each time we pay our bills to support the 'arts'.

Someone just wanted their own piece of the "renaissance" to take home with them.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I don't believe this story. "Commissioner" Death Ray and Mercury Morris have repeatedly stated there is no crime Downtown. An occasional shotgun blast, stabbing but nothing serious. They took all the money Morris was fixin to give to the County taxpayers for his first fair share pilot-lol.

Perhaps the gazetto can ask how often proctors has to clean 'human defecation' from the front/back entrances!

They don't know what was in the safe? They don't know how much was taken? They don't know from nuthin? Another command performance by Mercury Morris and his handpicked City Council candidate Leeza! Just what we need on the all DEM City Council rubber stamps a Proctor's stooge?  Only in Schenectady. She will offer expertise on popcorn popping.

Wonder if they get a discount on insurance for having "non" working camera's?  Convenient not knowing how much was taken, they must know how many tickets sold (maybe the show didn't do as well as expected)?!

Nice to have the Commish involved when our vehicles broken into and our home cops couldn't be bothered even to take fingerprints.

Sure Morris will INSIST on more police presence and get it.

According to the  Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity,  NOBODY goes to Proctor's -- so if NOBODY goes to Proctor's would have been nothing in the office to take.

The FACT is that Proctor's draws many people to its shows and other offerings -- that is why there was money in the office -- and that is why, unfortunately, it was a target for burglars.

What a well run organization! They have no idea how much is in the safe? Here's a new concept-night deposit. Of course, there is no crime Downtown. The problem with the cameras is someone has to be watching to respond. Unmanned cameras {the DEMS only crime stopping plan} are not as effective as the cop on the beat.

Please DV, Proctors has MILLIONS of the taxpayers money -  interest free Plex loans, millions granted from the Plex, federal loans, charitable 'gifts', not to mention the rent paid to them from the businesses in the gallery.

Proctors doesn't need patrons, they survive by taking money from the taxpayers although they are a non-profit.

The Schenectady wireless system will feature a web based portal page that will provide links to downtown attractions like Proctors, the new Bow Tie Cinema as well as other local establishments. In addition, Metroplex plans to install at least four wireless security cameras downtown as part of a network of cameras that will be installed using a State grant obtained by District Attorney Robert M. Carney.

"Downtown Schenectady is one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.  By adding fifteen wireless cameras we will ensure that as downtown grows and becomes busier, it remains a safe place for people to work, live and enjoy themselves," said Gary Hughes, Chair of the County Legislature's Committee on Economic Development.

The wireless network is currently operational and it features one hour of free internet access to visitors, customers, employees and small business owners in downtown Schenectady.  The wireless network also provides free information on almost 100 downtown attractions, eateries, clubs and hotels with direct links to other internet sites for those seeking show schedules, dinner reservations or other information.  This network will grow as more downtown attractions are added in the months ahead.

Metroplex last year awarded a contract to build and manage the wireless network to Logical Net.

The add-on of fifteen wireless cameras will be funded by using a State grant that was awarded to Metroplex last year to support development of the downtown wireless system.   Logical Net will handle installation of the wireless cameras. The cameras will be operational within the next six months.   The new cameras with pan, tilt and zoom features cover a broad area.  The digital feed from each camera is archived and can be made available over a secure web connection.  The cameras are portable and will be moved periodically.

The new downtown cameras will be compatible with wireless cameras installed by the District Attorney’s office using another State grant.  Both the wireless network and the security cameras can be expanded to include additional parts of Schenectady County.

Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “We will utilize these cameras to bring an added level of security and safety to our fast growing downtown. This is another step forward in the rapid revitalization of downtown Schenectady.”

They don't know what was in the safe? But they know the economic benefit to the city from having Proctors there? How does that work? Who does their
books?
This was clearly an inside job made to look like a random burglary. Nobody smashes through a wall just on the off chance they might find something valuable on the other side. There may or may not have been money lying around, out in the open? They don't have a procedure to handle cash, like a safe, or the night deposit concept mentioned above? Sheesh.
