Realtors warned
of suspicious man
at open houses
    SCHENECTADY — A suspicious person appearing at three real estate open houses over the last two weeks in Niskayuna and Schenectady has prompted the Schenectady Public Safety Commissioner to warn the Greater Capital Association of Realtors.
    Commissioner Wayne Bennett wrote a letter on Thursday to GCAR Executive Director James Ader in which he described a thin male approximately 60 year old, who reportedly only goes into the bathroom areas of the houses he enters.
    “He was observed by an agent to be opening drawers of regular cabinets and medicine cabinets in a bathroom area,” Bennett wrote. “When confronted he provided an explanation that was not reasonable.”
    Bennett surmised that the man was looking for prescription drugs, but acknowledged there is no evidence of any crime.
    In response to the notice, Ader said he advised his 2,800 members of the potential threat. Ader said realtors use common sense to detect suspicious behavior, like two people splitting up, and said his members are always cautious.
