So far, it appears so - but it's a step in the right direction.

Thanks for info MT.

Bumblebee.

You amaze me.  This appears to me as a honest attempt at giving the taxpayers some of what they have been asking for. It's a start. There is a need for more I agree but I bet they are working to add more.

This is a step in the right direction.

The Commissioner has an email address use it.  Just click on the address below I even made it so it should open your email program if you use the one that comes with the computer.  If not, then you will have to go to your web based email. ie yahoo, gmail, hotmail.

Ask him what other projects they are working on. The first priority is the protecting the people they serve after that they have many irons in the fire.  All focused on improving things.

I don't think I ever said that this wasn't a step in the right direction. I just stated what information could be obtained through this website...k? These are 'traffic accident reports' not 'crime reports'. Time will tell on when and how far they will go to expand on their website.

But a real step in the right direction would be hearing a 'real person' when you call the police station, instead of a recorded message that says 'they will bet back to you'!! That is bizarre!! just sayin'!

SCHENECTADY
Police: Internet can aid responses
Sex-offender data also more available with program option
BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com.

In an effort to improve response times for serious crimes, police may soon direct some victims of lesser crimes to the Internet to report the incident themselves.
“It’d be certain types of crimes, like minor property crimes. No felonies,” said Assistant Police Chief Brian Kilcullen. “Someone stole a flowerpot from a porch, that sort of thing.”
Police responded to more than 1,000 minor thefts last year, spending at least 20 minutes on each one, Kilcullen said. That’s time they could be using on major incidents.
“Either you get a serious call and it waits, or you go to it and come back [to the minor incident] to fi nish it later,” Kilcullen said. “This is more effi cient.”
He said the department is “seriously considering” buying software that would allow residents to fill out their own incident reports, which would be automatically sent to the police.
    “We process it
just as though a police officer completed it and dropped it off at the sergeant’s desk,” Kilcullen said.
He briefly described the software to the City Council at Tuesday’s committee meeting, after reporting that the department recently received $117,000 in seized funds.
With that, the department could buy the new software, as well as a program that could enlist the public’s aid in tracking sex offenders. ........................>>>>.....................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00700&AppName=1

Did you know it costs $9 for a copy of an accident report from the new website?  Good thing our taxes are so low or else I wouldn't be bringing this to the attention of the message board.

Wow, compared to $0.25/page for an accident report at the traffic bureau.

There should not be any charge to get a report.  What the heck are our taxes paying for?
