The reality is for many of these kids the parents could care less if they eat or not.  It is sad. ...

By not giving out these lunches the kids suffer.  Let all of them under 18 have the lunches then go after the parents and apply the laws about "child neglect" to these parents?  Isn't that what is happening?

Total agreement.   There's always money for rent-a-center, cable, internt, satellite, cell phones, hair dos, nail salons, tatoos.

For sure the county should do something about those parents.   Unfortunately, the county doesn't have the money, they are spending it on the millioniares downtown.

It is too bad that the tea party wackos and nattering nayboobs have never actually practiced the Gospel that they claim to preach.

I found this, and I disagree with it, especially when the government is overspending on many things that I disagree with, but that is also why you get out there and speak to those who are elected and work to get those elected who have the same beliefs as you do, and maybe reduce the amount that they will spend your money in errant ways.  The fact is, though, that many of the ways that government spends your money are actually against their own rules (i.e. taxes that are not appropriate per the Constitution and other legal documents.

Quoted Text
Question: "What does the Bible say about paying taxes?"

Answer: In Matthew 22:17-21, the Pharisees asked Jesus a question: "Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought Him a denarius, and He asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. Then He said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." In full agreement, the Apostle Paul taught, "This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor" (Romans 13:6-7).

Federal income tax, state income tax, local income tax, sales tax, property tax, personal property tax, capital gains tax—the list could go on and on. Statistics show that, in the United States, April 15, tax day, is one of the most stressful days of the year. The Internal Revenue Service is probably the most despised government organization. Similarly, tax collectors were not thought highly of in Bible times (Matthew 11:19; 21:31-32; Luke 3:12-13).

As much as we hate taxes, as much as the tax system is corrupt and unfair, as much as there are far better things our money could go towards—the Bible commands, yes, commands us to pay our taxes. Romans 13:1-7 makes it clear that we are to submit ourselves to the government. The only instance in which we are allowed to disobey the government is when it tells us to do something the Bible forbids. The Bible does not forbid paying taxes. In fact, the Bible encourages us to pay taxes. Therefore, we must submit to God and His Word—and pay our taxes.

The most frequent objection to paying taxes is that the money is being misused by the government or even used for evil purposes by the government. That, however, is not our concern. When Jesus said, "Give to Caesar...," the Roman government was by no means a righteous government. When Paul instructed us to pay taxes, Nero, the most evil Roman emperor in history, was the head of the government. We are to pay our taxes even when the government is not God-honoring.

We are free to take every tax deduction that is both legal and honest. We do not have to pay the maximum amount of taxes possible. If the government allows you a tax break, take it. If there is a legal way you can shelter some of your money from being taxed, shelter it. By all means, take the deduction for your children, your mortgage, your moving expenses, etc. Again, feel free to take every legal and honest opportunity to reduce your tax burden. Illegal and/or dishonest methods must be rejected. Romans 13:2 reminds us, "Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."

I do notice, however, that my money does not have the picture of Governor Cuomo, nor does it have a picture of Judy Dagostino or Frank Del Gallo on it.  Maybe we need to actually eliminate some of the spending and some of the levels of government (i.e. remove the county legislators to go to a board of supervisors). I do mostly agree with the final paragraph of this, and will continue to search for all appropriate ways to take tax deductions I can.

Uh, DV, does the Bible say that the poor are supposed to pay the taxes for the rich?

First of all, DV, the poor pay the taxes of the rich, and then, the taxpayers are soaked out of their other pocket to provide grant money for organizations that feed the kids, inotherwords, the poor are taxed to feed the poor.

DV, can you tell us why the millionaires are exempt from paying taxes and why the millionaires don't provide the lunches?

I'm a Tea Party Wacko

DVOR - you should be quoting the gospel maybe to Gillen, Morris etc ?

I was thinking of starting my own blog in the TU and wondered If I could use "Nattering Nayboobs of Negativety" as my blog title? Or do you have a copyright on it?

"Nattering Nabobs of Negativism" was written by speech writer William Safire, and forever will be associated with Vice President, Spiro Agnew.

I don't think he'd mind if you borrowed it!

I don't know what "practicing the gospel" has to do with this thread, but since you don't know me you have no idea what I preach or practice, gospel-wise, as I'm sure I've pointed out previously. We will have to take your word for it about how holy you are vis-a vis the rest of us. Are you suggesting that we are all supposed to have the same religious affiliation as you do? What religion says that parents don't need to feed their kids? I'm not sure I would want to belong to that one, something about it doesn't sound right.

DVR is so original that he has to copy his idiotic insults from VP Spiro Agnew. Probably on the instructions of TJ Hooker.

MMM!  I love the smell of fresh baked goods in a old fashioned bakery!

I wonder if the Agnew bribe money was used to open the bakery???  Agnew was a crook!

During his fifth year as Vice President, in the late summer of 1973, Agnew was under investigation by the United States Attorney's office in Baltimore, Maryland, on charges of extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy. In October, he was formally charged with having accepted bribes totaling more than $100,000, while holding office as Baltimore County Executive, Governor of Maryland, and Vice President of the United States. On October 10, 1973, Agnew was allowed to plead no contest to a single charge that he had failed to report $29,500 of income received in 1967, with the condition that he resign the office of Vice President.

Agnew is the only Vice President in United States history to resign because of criminal charges. Ten years after leaving office, in January 1983, Agnew paid the state of Maryland nearly $270,000 as a result of a civil suit that stemmed from the bribery allegations.

"nattering NAYBOOBS of negativity" -- .

Tell us WHY you oppose people knowing the truth?????     Why do you OPPOSE the taxapyers knowing that they have to sacrifice necessities in order to pay the property taxes of the millioniares downtow????

Why do you OPPOSE people knowing the truth?

Why should the taxpayers pay increased taxes to feed the poor while the millionaires dowontown refuse to provide lunch for the kids

Why is Phillip Morris getting a STAR exemption on a house in which he does not live?   Oh yeah you don't even know what a STAR exemption is

And you never respond to my comments because the only answer would be an admission that you are wrong.         I mean, really, DV, you make statements that Schenectady is vastly improved thanks to increasing the taxes on the homeonwers, but when asked what improvements, you don't answer because you can't provide any examples of how live is better in the neighborhoods where people live, you can't provide an answer to how things are better for the taxpayers.   You can't provide an answer to the question of would Jesus prefer the financially struggling people provide the summer lunches instead of the millioniares.   You can't answer the question of would Jesus want the poor homeowners to pay the taxes for the rich.  Etc Etc.   If you actually answered any of these questions, you would show you are totally wrong

I know what Christianity is. I don't believe I or anyone on this thread was "preaching" anything, all of a sudden someone starts quoting scripture?
As I've stated before, I'm willing to bet that the users of this website are all supporters of charity in one form or another. Just not for personal gain or aneed for recognition. I believe the Bible has something to say about those who show off how holy they are in public.
Does a person need to practice Catholicism? What if a person isn't catholic, or perhaps not a Christian at all? What if I'm Jewish? Is that okay? How offensive is it to start berating others for not adhering to one's own religion, not even knowing if that is in fact their faith? What an ugly attitude.
