Voting for Obama doesn't lead to job growth either. Instead of useless bar graphs take another look at the crowds packing DSS, food pantries and free lunch programs. Socialist policies never work. On the Federal level, with Metrograft, at the local level.

I grew up in B court , B-14 to be exact, in the corner..- - was raised by a single mom with support from grandparents.  I melted crayons on the radiator in my bedroom upstairs.

You are relly picking a bad time to show me your chinese arithmetic and and trying to explain why there shouldn't be any sandwiches in the Yates community room.

Listening to you explain that you have been tricked by politicians into living in such a nasty place- isn't funny.  What's funny is the Maserati going through the mcdonalds drive up window I'm having lunch at now

I hope you are not comparing yates village from 'then' to 'now'!!!!! I had relatives that also lived there...'then'!! We visited them very often as they did us. It was a different time than it is now. We felt 'save' going there as opposed to today! And might I add that they 'chose' to live there. They had no interest in owning a home. They ate steak a couple X's a week and Christmas's were plentiful. When the parents eventually died, they had a 'chunk of change' in the bank to leave their kids.

Is that the case today? I hardly think so!!

Nobody begrudges a hungry child a sandwich. I think that what is concerning citizens is the fact that large numbers of children are having to be fed in parks, like pigeons, and nobody seems to alarmed by this. This isn't the nineteenth century, why is society regressing? And why do we keep hearing how great things are downtown, and just walk a block or so away from State Street, all these kids. They don't appear to be included in the renaissance.
I saw the Maserati too, on I-90. Who is that mystery man? And why does he eat at McDonald's?

Nobody is opposed to feeding hungry kids but a program doesn't have to be in every City park and project. Parks are for recreation not feeding centers and socialist summer camps. This is about grabbing federal largess as much as feeding any kids. More paid staff to coordinate the volunteers. 3 volunteers-2 kids eating a hot dog at one site yesterday. But we must keep expanding? The hysteria from the left is hilarious. Keep eating paint chips.

The Schenectady Inner City Ministry’s summer lunch program is at the Central Park site from 12:05 to 1:20 p.m. weekdays. The time was incorrect in a story in Thursday’s Gazette.

It's about having a market for that "Corporate Kid Chow" that the government (USDA) certifies as being nutritious. They can't make money selling thatcrap to schools in the summertime, so voila! Kids are going hungry! Nobody can prove that the children involved wouldn't have anything to eat otherwise. And who could be against feeding hungry children?

Only cold hearted conservatives who are criminalized and accused of murder for asking policy questions. Kind of like "if you ask about the little league field you hate the kids who play."

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I know there are kids that do NEED that lunch program.  I also know a lot more that dont need it and are going there for the free food.  Thats what I find sickening.  The ones that dont need it are there taking it from the ones that do.

Allison Williams - "This has been a great summer lunch for us.  We're serving about 1,000 summer lunch every day. Yes, we're doing very well.  Some of our biggest sites are serving 250 kids a day."  12 sites this year.  7 city parks, 2 municipal housings, 2 churches and Unity House.

Blanket eligibility, anyone who comes in will get a lunch, as long as they're under 18 years old.

"This is a great way to support local business."  No, not by having someone go to a business and lay down their money, but the business that is making all this money comes from the Business Incubator on Albany Street (I believe this is the same building that the Albany Street SEFCU branch is located in).  This is what they think of when they think of helping a local business.

The food pantry is very busy.  Another note that they are proud of, but shouldn't be.

I appreciate that they are doing this to help out, but the fact is, they are trying to paint a picture that things are so wonderful, but the fact that these services are required shows that things are so far from wonderful, it's amazing.  I wish there would be a day that SICM could be shut down, as there would not be a reason for it.  The fact is, this will not be happening at any point in the near future, nor does it appear that we are moving in a direction to minimize these issues.  In fact, they are constantly expanding, showing that things are NOT WORKING.

The reality is for many of these kids the parents could care less if they eat or not.  It is sad.

Wonder where they spend their welfare and SSI checks?  Check the local liquor stores on the first of the month.  Watch as they line up for the free turkeys in the fall many have the most sophisticated of cell phones not to mention the pounds of gold jewelry they are wearing. I have seen all these things first hand.

I was shocked when I stood in line to pick up the holiday food basket for someone that is totally physically disabled to the point of only being able to move their head and eat.   Now someone like that appreciates what the non-profit organizations are doing for them.  They live on a very low income.  They don't have a cell phone nor any gold jewelry. They are not abusing the system.

By not giving out these lunches the kids suffer.  Let all of them under 18 have the lunches then go after the parents and apply the laws about "child neglect" to these parents?  Isn't that what is happening?

I understand why the agencies involved have the blanket eligibility, but you can't use the numbers served by such a program to demonstrate need.
I agree with cel. We are normalizing parents not feeding their kids and making it someone else's responsibility. We already have programs paid for by taxpayers and charities to help people who are having trouble caring for their children and it is a mother's responsibility to use those programs if necessary but you still need to feed your kids. First the fathers were absolved of all responsibility for these kids, now the mothers are being excused too.
If these families still can't feed their kids even with food stamps then drag Governor Cuomo to one of these lunch sites when he shows up to talk aboutcompetition for economic development or some such crap.
