Obama: Negative ratings in 37 states, but king of DC August 4, 2012
Gallup has just released Barack Obama’s job approval rating for the first half of 2012, broken down by state, and the news is not encouraging for the president.
Obama’s approval rating is below 50 percent in 37 states, ranging from a 26 percent rating in Utah to a 49 percent rating in Michigan. Obama is at 50 percent or higher in just 13 states, from a 50 percent rating in Minnesota to a 63 percent rating in Hawaii. The president is most popular in Washington DC, where his job approval rating is an astonishing 83 percent..................>>>>.............>>>>..............http://washingtonexaminer.com/obama-negative-ratings-in-37-states-but-king-of-dc/article/2504007
The list of states in which Obama had majority approval during the first half of the year includes three of the largest states -- California, New York, and Illinois. This helps boost the combined Electoral College vote of states with majority approval of Obama to a total of 185. All of these states have voted reliably for Democratic presidential candidates in recent elections.
Most of the 16 states in which Obama's approval rating is below 40% tend to be smaller in population and thus have fewer electoral votes. The largest of these are Tennessee and Indiana with 11 electoral votes each. The 16 states with approval ratings lower than 40% total 93 electoral votes, and typically have supported Republican presidential candidates in recent elections.

Well, we already know he's not a socialist, since he hasn't socialized production. He has certainly corporatized production. But we can't call the state/corporate relationship by the name it has been called for 80 years. It SCARES people.

Most people believe goose stepping and arm bands are what define this system of government, but it is really more about the power shared by corporate and political interests. Like going to war for oil to protect corporate oil interests, or mandating people purchase corporate health insurance. That certainly isn't socialism, but it is another "ism".

Goose stepping and arm bands??? Nazism? And why aren't you allowed to say "it"?

Close! Nazi is the name of the Party. The corporate and state consolidation of wealth and power isn't Democratism or Republicanism, since both parties are guilty of serving U.S. corporate interests. This theory of government is another "ism". But it certainly isn't socialism like your Maher post suggests.

Mmmmmmm....Close! I can give you partial credit for this try. Sometimes this "ism" was described as "conservatism" when George W. Bush was president. Seeing how Barack Obama continued most of Bush's corporate/state policies, bank bailout, appointing corporate leaders to government positions, along with the same tax and foreign policy, I feel you deserve partial credit for this attempt. But I do agree, Bush and Obama have a shared belief in this "ism".

I can come up with a few Bush 'isms'... Alcoholism, hedonism, nihilism... For Obama it could be optimism, pragmatism or realism... but I don't think that these are the 'isms' you meant.

You forget Obama's cronyism, militarism, and despotism. You combine those and it makes up the other "ism".
