If the mayor or acting mayor is doing something illegal/fraudulent who is that person reported to? Or is that person allowed to make their own rules when it benefits them with NO consequences?

Since he is so out and out brazen he must be privy to something that he knows he can get away with things or he has a big set of them.  There probably is no one to rein him in.  If there is it is at the county level and we know what that means.  The residents should go to the state to investigate what he is doing.

Leader in control of the city

Access to the judicial system The ability to gather and use private information against a person  Hey, he did already at a council meeting before he even became the acting Mayor so we know with he can do with his job as Chief Investigator for DA.  Oh boy can see the work he will be doing investigating all the forum posters

Is an important part of a TV station. How many know he is on the City Council committee for companies like TW and if I am not mistaken Verizon now too. Heck, who do you think was a part of the 10 yr contract with TW.

The only thing missing are the armies walking down the streets, curfews etc.  I think he may possibly have access to calling Marshal law and call on the National Guard for help

This is not a joke.

This is exactly the "Let them eat cake" attitude that causes heads to roll beneath razor sharp guillotine blades at a later date.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Report Government Fraud

State Comptroller DiNapoli is working to find and fight fraud at every level of State and local government. The public’s help is needed in this fight. New Yorkers can report allegations of fraud, corruption or abuse of taxpayer money by calling a toll-free hotline at 1-888-OSC-4555 (1-888-672-4555).

The hotline is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by experienced investigators from the Investigations Unit of the Legal Services Division of the Office of the State Comptroller. New Yorkers may also file an online complaint, print a complaint form or send an e-mail to investigations@osc.state.ny.us.

Once a complaint is received, the Investigations Unit may:

    * Conduct a preliminary investigation;
    * Open a full investigation;
    * Refer the complaint to the proper agency or authority; or
    * Close the case.

Individuals who make an allegation may remain anonymous. Individuals should view the Comptroller’s privacy policy before submitting a complaint.

Both the NYS AG Fraud Unit and NYS Comptroller Fraud Unit should set up permanent offices in Downtown Schenectady. This is a win-win. It takes one of dozens of empty buildings off the market and there is plenty of work to keep both offices busy for months. The Commission of Deeds fiasco is small potatoes but maybe it will be the final straw for many fence sitters.

Chutzpah aplenty in McCarthy power grab

    It’s a fairly common, and unsavory, political game for candidates to challenge the validity of their opponents’ nominating petitions, looking for any uncrossed t or undotted i that might disqualify a signature, push their opponents off the ballot and deny voters a chance to vote for them. It seems like quite another for a candidate to try to block his opponent’s ability to even collect those signatures — one, fortunately, that not many candidates are empowered with.
    But Schenectady Democrat Gary McCarthy appears to be so empowered in his capacity as acting mayor, and by refusing to grant “commissioner of deed” status to supporters of his Alliance Party rival, Roger Hull, he’s trying to block their efforts to get Hull’s name on the Republican line for this fall’s election.
    What’s worse is McCarthy’s explanation for doing it: “I don’t believe I have to appoint people who are out working against me,” he said to a reporter.
    It’s hard to imagine a more blatantly partisan abuse of power. There have been plenty of political animals to occupy the Schenectady mayor’s office over the years, but none in recent memory has demonstrated such brazenness in trying to confound his or her political adversaries.
    It provides the best argument yet that Mc-Carthy was the wrong choice to serve as acting mayor when Brian Stratton left for a patronage job in the Cuomo administration. It’s bad enough that McCarthy is also the city council president; and that, until the end of June, he remains in his regular job with the district attorney’s offi ce. .............................>>>>.................................>>>>......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00902&AppName=1

Could see where this is going.

If a Hull petitioner knocks on someones door to get a signature, McCarthy can have them arrested for trespassing.

If Hull supporters are crossing the street, McCarthy will have them ticketed for jay walking.

At the Hull campaign fundraiser, McCarthy will call the police and break up the event claiming disorderly conduct and that it was 'not good for his campaign'

Sad thing is, this is just the beginning.

Apparently Acting McCarthy "serving" simultaneously on Metrograft, SACC-TV, DSIC and City Council was not a problem but this is the last straw. But it ain't mere chutzpah. It's someone desperately clinging to power who will do anything to maintain the DEM death grip on the City. He's seen the recent poll.

     The Alliance/REPS just had the most successful fundraiser in County history. For once, unified opposition will have the funding to throw these DEM fossils out of office. The smart ones have already fled or wisely chosen to retire.

This reminds me of one of those old movies usually set in the South where a guy comes to a small town and there is an evil "boss" who controls everything that goes on.

The evil boss is usually taken out by his own party 'insiders'.

It really is a non-issue.

Oh, yeah, most Americans don't care about "fair play." Right. The nice thing is that these fools believe that it a "non-issue." I am glad for that, because surprised looks on their faces will be quite memorable election night.

Exactly right. Except in the South there are stores Downtown, they have a two party system and they don't give GE $5 MILLION in taxpayer funds for 100 lower paying jobs.

Met a guy today who was mowing his lawn in Bellevue, was asking him how the neighborhood is now, cause I lived there years ago. We got talking about the candidates up for council etc. I asked him what he thought about McCarthy and he said "the arrogant bas*ard" : )

I've been hearing the same thing. People in the city didn't like him when he 'wasn't' acting mayor.

January 2012 it will be............... MAYOR HULL!!!
