Helping the poor is one thing, but fighting the gangs and drugs which are all over the streets of Schenectady is going to take a lot more than one church. The City is supposed to use our taxpayer money to have police in that neighborhood and try to find a way to combat the influx of gang activity.

St Adalberts is one of the only decent properties left in MP. Let me just ask you one question DV, when was the last time you EVER saw a member of the Schenectady police force walking the beat in MP? The answer is never.

CAN'T WIN THE ARGUMENT?  THEN CALL SOMEONE A RACIST! IT ALWAYS WORKS (at least with liberal voters.)

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Liberals are haters projecting their own poison on others. They like the poor poor. Don't want their kiddies to be without maids, dishwashers or nannies once they graduate Harvard.

And our parish does a lot ALREADY in the way of outreach to the poor and those in various troubled situations -- we have done that for 108 years ...

DVOR-many years ago St. Adalberts did alot for the parishoners and the neighbors. Nuns helping the sick and needy, but then it go a priest who was greedy: (

I know that it was because members of our parish - and other people in the neighborhood - attending City Council meetings that we got the last GOP mayor to actually give a damn about Mont Pleasant and assign regular drive through patrols in the neighborhood.

The sad fact is that the only time you see politicians of EITHER party in Mont Pleasant is right before an election.    That is why I believe the city should elect its Council members from wards and NOT at-large.

Here's a quote from the SPD website "Currently, the Schenectady Police Department employs approximately 160 sworn officers and 75 civilians making it the seventh largest police department in New York State."

I have NEVER seen a police officer walking the streets of MP. Riding in a car, yes, but I think we would agree that having officers walking through the neighborhoods is greatly needed.

Too bad you couldn't that with the DEM "leader" who occupied that office for 8 long years. The church can only do so much. It helps if someone in City Hall actually listens. Many have been concerned about Mt Pleasant for a long time-moving Marcella's was an idiotic move by Metrograft.

Could not agree more with your second point. The City must return to ward representation. The current council well represents the GE Realty Plot, Woodlawn and the Stockade-the rest of the City NOT. Upper Union Street has no representation and will not have anyone no matter who wins in November.

Upper Union Street is given more attention by city council members than Crane Street gets. I remember that we had to fight to keep the  $180,000 CDBG grant that Mont Pleasant applied for and a certain local politician wanted to  take and give to Upper Union St instead.

No mayor (of either party) in recent times has given a crap about Mont Pleasant   -- except to ask for votes.   The only 2 local politicians - in my memory - who really gave a damn about Mont Pleasant were Kathy Lewis and Barbara Strangfeld.    Mrs. Strangfeld has moved to Pennsylvania and Mrs. Lewis to the School Board.

Those two ladies were an great example of working together works --- a Democrat and a Republican who came to 98% of the neighborhood meetings .. and to the clean up days (and they actually worked) and fish dinners and the community events that mattered.

We need a lot of people willing to roll up their sleeves and work  -- the time for talking and pointing fingers of blame is over -- we just have to start doing the work that needs to be done to improve our neighborhoods.

I suggest that the City Council hold its meetings  IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS ... don't hide in City Hall ...  and I will be bold enough to say this to EVERY one running in the city ...    don't bother going door-to-door asking for our votes  if you are just going to turn your backs on us  until the next election   ---

maybe it is time for Mont Pleasant to  turn its back on the politicians  ... you've done it to us for too long

It speaks volumes that the two "working together" leaders are both off the Council. Lewis lost the next election and has gone on to the School Board. The other "patroon" fled town, sold her house, without having the decency to tell anyone. She was smoked out by alert neighbors. Her departure was careful timed to avoid a special election-another typical DEM working together move.

I look forward to your endorsement of the REP/Alliance candidate running against Denise Brucker, who actually called for institution of a City tax on St Al's. Mt Pleasant is an excellent example of DEM working together. Everything sucked out the neighborhoods for 2 blocks Downtown. Metrograft's relocation of Marcella's was the death blow for Crane Street. Since residents can't sell any property they rent out to tenants furthering the downward spiral. No retail on Crane, fewer home owner occupied properties, higher crime, higher gang activity. No amount of fish fry's or neighbor meetings can change the facts on the ground.

Can anyone lay odds on how long it will take for him to pull up DUCI or the "REPS. WHO RAN THE COUNTY INTO THE GROUND" ETC????

Mrs Strangefeld didn't flee the city -- they moved because of her husband's job and I know that many were aware that she was moving several months BEFORE she moved ---   so your statements  (as usual) are completely untrue.

I have NO intention of endorsing ANY candidates  in the city races -- as a member of the board of a non-profit religious organization it would be inappropriate for me to endorse or campaign for any candidate.
