Grant will help teachers learn to improve youngsters’ reading

    A group that has offered free reading tutoring to local students for the last three years wants to train 16 more teachers in the program with a grant from a local foundation.
    As A Different Way In Reading Center celebrated the graduation this week of nine students, the organization announced that it received roughly a $23,000 grant from the Standish Family Foundation to pay for teachers to attend training led by Sandy Thompson from the Oklahoma City-based Payne Education Center.
    The program is called Structured Language Basics and is based on “Alphabetic Phonics,” where the instructors teach the letters and combinations of letters that make sounds. Students learn the rules of words and how to break up the words into different sounds.
    The training will be held Aug. 15 through 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the center at 8 N. Church St. in Schenectady and is designed for primarily for teachers of students in grades one through three, according to Kathy Jensen, co-founder of the program and one of the instructors. “It’s absolutely free,” she said. “They are paying all of the scholarship money and all the materials that these teachers would need.”
    The center is particularly reaching out to people from urban districts.
    “We’re looking for teachers who really feel that there’s a certain percentage of their population that the traditional reading programs cannot reach effectively,” she said.

Now we only need to get a grant to teach the  Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity how to  read and , more importantly, how to be POSITIVE and PRODUCTIVE members of their community -- instead of the negative, spoiled-brat destroyers of everything good and decent.

YOU are the one who does NOT know how to read.  And you can't do math either.

We know how to read.   When official sources and statistics state taxes are going up, and we SEE the taxes going UP, well, DV, that DOES mean we CAN read AND we CAN do the math.;

When we see the official records showing and proving 100% property tax exemptions on business people who are worth millions and billions, and then we read about people who can't afford to pay their taxes, and we read the list of tax foreclosures, well, CAN not only read, but we can comprehend what we read.  

You are the one who can't read, ALL the official sources and statstics and records put in print that county taxes are the 24th HIGHEST IN THE WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY!!!!   You con't know how to read because you won't even comment on it.

Actually, you REFUSE to comment in any way, manner, shape whatsoever about city proeprty taxes.  And as far as county taxes, the ONLY thing you do is look at campaign literature which is always a bunch of lies (no matter what party), and you do a copy/paste, that claims the taxes are gong down.  But you NEVER provide any proof, not one shred of proof of tax BILLS that are going down.

Only dumb peole can be so gullible as to believe campaign literature.    Why don't you do your own research by looking at the tax rates over time and tell us year by year what the tax bills are????   Oh you wouldn't dream of doing anything remotely like that because that would proof beyond all that the copy paste junk just lies.  But see, since you are not a mature indepoendent adult living like an adult and paying your own taxes, since you don't pay taxes you have no clue.

We owuld love to be positive.   but tell us HOW can we be positive with taxes going up up up jup up, crime going up up up up, poperty values going down down down????    How can even ONE homeowner in the city be psoitive????    Even your buddy - the cEO of the socialist government theater left the city --- why did he move out of the city, huh????    Huh?????    Why did Morris leave the city?????   You refuse to answer that question don't you????

And as far as the topic of the post, instead of WASTING money on teaching teachers how to teach kids to read (beyond what is currently taught in school), how about holding parents responsible for doing their job.   Parents should be reading to kids even as young as a year old!

He also does not GET that we are underwater and fighting for our life. He is an "optimist," That should tell you all you need to know. A sad life of no accomplishment, trapped living with auntie and he wants to be great. The only way he can be is to be a member of a team of politicians who control others and control a locality. He would have made a terrific Gauleiter in some minor town in Germany in the 1930s. A real party man to the last breath.

And what he refuses to acknowledge, what he refuses to state, in referencing all these grants, is like you said, he won't say that the money comes from OUR pockets (not his of course because he doesn't pay taxes.).

And of course, he's obviously too uneducated to realize that the DEM fed goverment is looking to increase our debt to a whopping $14 trillion.   I'm not praising Bush by any means, but he only left $500 billion debt when he left office.   And in just two years the DEM is mupltiplying that 28 times!   YIKES.   And of course, so much of the country's problems resulted from the home funding issue which of course, the dems under Clinton and Cuomo when he was head of HUD, those socialist desparately wanted people who own houses who couldn't afford them.  All kinds of theft from the hardworking taxpayers to give to those who couldn't afford to save for a down payment (or wanted all their electronic toys and thus wouldn't put money aside for a downpayment), and at the same tiime probably were getting huge EIC checks every year but wouldn't dream of using that money for a downpayment.   For shame.
