Schenectady schools plan to hire $115,170-a-year aide for superintendent

SCHENECTADY -- It looked like interim Superintendent John Yagielski was cutting fat out of the budget earlier this year when he eliminated the city school district's last two assistant superintendent jobs.

This week, the school board planned to sign off on a new $115,170-a-year job called assistant to the superintendent.

Yagielski said the position is part of a reorganization he unveiled back in February. He said assistant superintendents are no longer needed because they overly restrict the role of principals. At the same time, the superintendent needs a close aide to handle parent concerns, appear at school events and a wide array of other tasks.

"The office of the superintendent is more than just the superintendent," Yagielski said. "There are a lot of things that come into the office, and there has to be a constant presence here."

Yagielski said when he worked in the Greece Central School District in the Rochester area two decades ago, the superintendent had such an assistant.

Paige Elementary School Principal Patricia A. Paser will be taking over the new job, and a search is under way for her replacement. Her contract runs until June 2013, allowing her to serve during the transition from Yagielski to whoever will be hired as permanent superintendent. The search to fill that post begins this summer...................>>>>.......................>>>>...................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/defa.....73.php#ixzz1O727yqvs

When you 'clean house' that doesn't mean you put the trash back inside when done cleaning.

End the $100k salaries, end the lucrative retirement benefits and start spending money on books, materials for the classrooms. Teachers crying that state cuts will hurt the students when there own greed is draining the system.

Meanwhile Amsterdam was hit with +16% school tax increase? Horrible.

Thank you SCORE for supporting this outrage. When we see you in public stop hiding behind cheap sunglasses. Ask how are you doin? lol As usual at the worst District in Upstate NY one step forward two steps back. The new Super is a huge improvement. He can find millions in pork but nothing more that enables a minor tax cut.
