Maybe you didn't hear him...He is going to set up a framework for periodic reviews on the necessary prolonged detentions at Gitmo,,,MUCH MUCH different than that GWB.  He is only going to detain them for maybe 1,5 or in the extreme case 10 years without charging, tying or convicting those requiring prolonged detention.  Obama is a brilliant Constitutional lawyer, trust him, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to the Constitution.  Lets just celebrate the hope and change he has brought to this country.  Gitmo is no longer creating more terrorists like when GWB was President...We have periodic reviews now. The Arab World now understands that when we fire our cruise missiles into their countries, bomb "safe houses" with our drones, and send our black ops in, kicking down doors to detain the suspected terrorists, they have piece of mind that Obama is going to be doing periodic reviews to assure their 10 year stay at club Gitmo is fair and just.

Thank God for Bush! Obama didn't have to dream this one up all by himself. He just picked up and added to the already Bush policy. They are one in the same.

The same forces that directed bush are the same forces that are directing obama.

Prolonged detainment is pretty much indefinite detainment, in the wars that were declared by congress we are allowed to hold POW's until the end of the war, however since this war on terror was never declared by congress and will not likely ever end the best thing these people will get is a military tribunal. I'm not saying the people there are not guilty of something but we should stick by our principles and give them a fair trial. This move is a slippery slope that could very well move to us citizens.

Give him time; he's only more than halfway through his presidency.  He has to fix GWB's mess.  That's why he had to bomb the sh!t of Libya, bomb Yemen with drones, escalate troop levels in Afghanistan, and remain in Iraq.  He's fixing all of GWB's mess.  C'mon 55, wake up, these foreign policies are COMPLETELY different.  When he says "close" Gitmo, that's a metaphor for closing the way it was run under the barbaric Bush Administration.  Remember, Obama is setting up "framework" to periodically review the detainees after being detained against their will and without being charged with a crime.  This is a Constitutional framework outside of the original constitution.  This is a secondary constitution specific for suspected terrorists in a war that was never declared.  This is MUCH, MUCH different.  You can see the stark difference between Bush and Obama - can't you?
