I tend to watch our local public access stations as I find our community to be interesting. However, I was surprised to see the full length announcement of Gary McCarthy’s run for mayor shown on the Government Access channel 18 through Time Warner cable. I did not see anything from Roger Hull or any candidate for the Republican Party and I believe that this is a genuine misuse of public access. Perhaps Mr. McCarthy’s influence and actions that placed public access in the hands of Proctor’s Theatre played a greater role in determining what is shown on these valuable channels. As a citizen I believe that we all should be concerned with how we are governed. I also believe that we should have access to all political points of view and not just what is deemed to be important by those who are in control of the medium. Open Stage Media (OSM) should be presenting the political announcements of everyone, not just of Mr. McCarthy and the Democrat Party in Schenectady County.
Great letter from Pat. This is not the only problem with OSM's slanted coverage. Before the opening of the City Council meeting the sheeple are treated to ancient photos of the identified members to the strains of patriotic music. Like this is some great exercise in democracy?-lol.
There are many more screen identifiers-not of public speakers but only incumbents. During a meeting the name of the council person will be posted several times. No attempt at fairness-no attempt at fair play.
According to lame duck Tom Della Sala this is all terrible "misinformation". McCarthy, according to him, paid for the OSM production. Therefore, there is no problem and all is kosher. Huh? Was this offer also extended to Roger Hull and all other candidates? The DEM machine has been stung with the negative reaction to the obvious OSM self dealing and favoritism.
If in fact the OSM production was paid for, what begs a question is how many runnings of this production was included in the production charge? Is it unlimited through election day? And how many more times will this and the appt. of the new fire chief be broadcast. From what we've seen there is an obvious repetition after repetition of broadcasts all including the appearance of out part-time Mayor.
Why is ANYONE surprised with this. You have to check Morris' blog on the TU site. He has chosen not to post anymore negative comments and made a bold statement regarding the harsh tone posters have taken.

Exactly right. Censorship is alive, well and encouraged at pathetic OSM and that comedy blog of Mercury Morris' in the TU. No wonder there's no comments and he doesn't post for months.
OSM is a by product of the DEM party. There is no way to put the genie back in the bottle. The community has been thrown out of community TV.
Hard to Start Again April 29, 2011 at 9:55 pm by Philip Morris
I have not posted for 10 weeks or so. I am pretty certain that has not caused any anxiety, except possibly to me.
The more time past, the less I wanted to start again. My little blog, with modest posting and participation, seems to have succumbed to a pattern of many public opinion posters where the participation becomes angrier and angrier.
Is life perfect? Of course not. Will it be closer to perfect if we: a) eliminate all government programs; b) stop teaching or funding publicly the arts; or, c) cause some other kind of pain to the wide range of people and institutions that are the “middle” of our society?
Of course not, again. Debate so often collapses into weary predictable extreme positions, that it no longer is debate or a pleasure to engage in.
So, with a eye toward this working for me (which seems fair as I do this voluntarily), I am starting again. This time, though, I am no longer going to approve pissy comments. Strong opinions are welcome, comments that don’t engage but enrage will simply be deleted.
Makes me feel better, anyway.
So he will only accept comments that are pro proctors, pro metroplex, pro OSM. What I posted to him included NO foul language or name calling, just the truth concerning the low assessments given to PT redevelopment and the "non profits" who are not contributing to our tax base.
Judging from the total lack of participation-99% of the comments must be deemed by the all knowing Mercury Morris as "pissy". Only in Schenectady would such a buffoon become a community "leader". BTW, great floor shots last night! How come when any critic of the DEM machine starts to speak the garbage schedule shares the screen? I know just a coincidence.

Morris pulls another bleeding heart socialist liberal EXTREMEST!!! What a surprise!! No one EVER said to eliminate ALL government programs. No one EVER said to stop funding ALL of the arts. Nor has anyone EVER said or wished to cause pain on people that are in the 'middle of our society'. This guys is a loon.....and clearly popped right out of reality.
And how would he even have a clue, when first he doesn't even live in the over taxed city.......is paid and supported by the already overburdened taxpayers! And he clearly does not know much about nor is willing to accept diversity and differences of opinion. And is clearly practicing censorship!! Shutting down the people who do not agree with his ideology. Surprising that the tu will let him continue with his blog with his admitted choice of censorship. I believe the tu encourages comments and free speech.............but Morris does NOT???

I noticed that tooand was wondering the same thing. Like you said it really does only show up on the critics. Not mention it is a useless graphic I mean really no one can read the blaster thing and who is going to rush and get their pen and paper to right down all the dates So Schenectady as usual.
In defense of the guy..................This is all he knows. And it has become quite profitable for himself. He clearly has a nice little thing goin' on there. However, he refuses to realize that the taxpayers can no longer afford to pay for his lifestyle and the proctor's empire!
What I find confusing is how the TU allows him to censor free speech. Now if this was his own 'personal blog' on word press or where ever, I could understand. But in a 'free press', 'free speech' media outlet? hmmmmmmmmm

This is definitely the issue. The platform is a blog and if Morris wants to censor people, well then don't contribute the the TU.
Now, is this going to be his excuse in November with OSM? Censor all those who don't agree with the renaissance? Then, replace OSM with DEM.
