Sex offender seeks bail so he can witness birth of baby

    A Level 3 sex offender, who was accused of tattooing children, may make it out of jail to see his child’s birth if he can post bail.
    Schenectady County Court Judge Karen Drago Thursday set bail for Jose Dones at $20,000.
    Dones pleaded guilty earlier this week to failing to register as a sex offender, a felony. In return, he is to be sentenced May 23 to 1 to 3 years in state prison.
    Dones was arrested in January, accused of using professional tattoo equipment to tattoo children as young as 14.

    He has been incarcerated since his arrest and Thursday was the first time he had sought bail.
    Dones, with attorney Kent Gebert, asked that bail be set so Dones could attend the birth of his child. Dones has three other children, he told the court.
    Dones stressed that when he heard authorities were looking for him in January, he turned himself in.
    Prosecutor Jessica Lorusso argued that Dones has already pleaded guilty, and that he has three prior convictions for failing to register as a sex offender.
    He’s also previously had bench warrants issued for his arrest, she said.
    Dones argued that any failures to appear were when he was younger. He could have run in the current case, but chose not to, he said.
    “I’ll do my time,” Dones told Drago. “But I want to be there for my kid’s birth. That’s all that matters.”
    Drago set bail at $20,000. Maybe you should have thought about that before you started getting in trouble, avoiding bench warrants and permanently scarring another child.

Lock him up.

This guy failed to appear when he was younger? Dones was convicted in 2008 for sexually abusing a 16 year old - he was 33 years old at the time. If he failed to appear, it must have been after this conviction.

Really, I don't understand the legal system if a Level 3 sex offender who fails to register, is convicted of molesting a 16 year old and tatoos minors is then released on bail to witness the birth of his child?! Who the hell would want a Level 3 sex offender in their maternity ward?  


Once you molest a child, you should lose all rights being around them again. Regardless if you're a parent or not.
