Studies, the one thing that has been done by Rotterdam on a regular basis. Do a study and if you don't like the results do another study.

Coming soon to a town near you-a study to analyze why there are so many studies.

not bashing, just a correction....
April 18, 1865, the Civil War ended after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865....however, having lived in Georgia for ten years, I can tell you that many down south are not aware that it ended!!!!

I was referring to an 1866 map of Rotterdam that I have ..  Obviously, I know that the Civil War ended in 1865.

As for this newest study -

1)  the consulting firm showed a plan of how 2 roundabouts would fit .. basically where the 2 gas stations are now located  .. so the statement that 2 roundabouts couldn't fit there is incorrect

2) the double roundabout option does not take away any of the other businesses  .. so any the comments that suggest some nefarious plan to do so are a bunch of hogwash

3) 2 public meetings is a series .. although .. I am sure that more than 2 meetings will be needed before all ofthis is finalized ..  the one just past and the one scheduled for July are just the meetings scheduled by the consulting firm ---  there would most likely be additional public meetings and discussion when the consultants report goes to the town board and, also, when and if DOT takes up the project

4) the roundabout at Hamburg St and Curry Rd is a great improvement over the previous conditions -- i wasskeptical of roundabouts before .. but not so much now

5) the "double roundabout option" is just one of many being considered .. i have my preferences for a different option  .. attend the meeting in July to see the other options

Curry Rd is the issue. Traffic going west at 5pm is bumper to bumper to the train overpass by the old kmart plaza.

The problem? ALL of Rotterdam is nothing more than a 2 lane town!! And yet they keep building condos/mfh when the roads can't handle the existing traffic. Poor planning that has come back to bite them. And before they do anything, let's hope they update the water/sewer lines that are in that area.

NO TRUTH COULD BE BETTER STATED....the 'retired' developers dont care because they have all day to get from one end of town to the other

55T you couldn't be more wrong about the roundabout at Hamburg street.  It has done MUCH to improve the traffic flow at 5:00 - 6:00.  I was against the roundabout initially but it so improved my drive-time that I love it.  YOu must not drive through there each day or if you do you must be buzzed--because it works very well.

Again........the problem is NOT with the 5 corners! The problem rests with decades of poor development in a 2 lane town. Curry Road going west at 5pm is the issue!!

There should be stats on the number of emergency vehicles and tractor trailers and school buses that pass through the 5 corners daily also.

you folks really need to brush up on your facts:

1)  Metroplex is not involved in the study

2) the double roundabout is only one option that could be considered .. the meeting on April 26 was the FIRST in a series to get public input ..a number of options are being considered

3) it makes no sense to WAIT ... this intersection has basically remained unchanged (except for paving) since the end of the American Civil War in 1866  ..    the town recognized it was a problem intersection in 1959 when it conducted the first of a number of studies ----  so just waiting to solve a problem that was recognized over 50 years ago  .. would be just plain stupid.  To just build sidewalks and not fix the intersection would be even more stupid.

He is right-------this  sh!t needs to be fixed
A real plan - not just stop gap
The gentleman from tops was correct in sewers water and utilities need to be thought out
There needs to be the least amount of property pulled from the tax rolls
Signage needs to be addressed
Truck traffic on rt7 in the town with its low bridges need attention - either fix them or move the state route designation to broadway
Sidewalks and curbs or curbs as a minimum
Drainage ditches which haven't worked for years need to be filled
Work with the IDA and private land owners to fund a block at a time for curb/sidewalk/sewer/water  upgrades - this needs a full engineering plan and will also remove the prevailing wage requirement by turning the project over to private business and not government
Work with the young seniors who have knowledge in the areas above and begin training our youth over the age of 18 in the skills the required to continue working on the rest of our town

More later

Your traffic on Curry will move faster down that way if you have the roundabout.  As for the other stuff--nobody cares about it--that's why nobody studied it.  Look at Altamont
avenue--that continues to be a PITA.  Nothing changed their even after the State took about ten feet of my property.

The big problems are the bottlenecks at "5-corners" (which is really 6 corners) and "4 corners" that is why my proposal would address those bottlenecks.   It would be cost prohibitive to expand Curry Road to two lanes but there should at least be a sidewalk and a bike/hike lane --- and controlled bike/pedestrian crossings at various points.

I was just going to mention about the tractor trailers and buses that go through there.  I watched a tractor trailer go through the one on Hamburg and what a trial that was.  He was more ON the circle than around it.

If they do a double at 5 corners, I cant even begin to see how that would work for them.  There is a lot of traffic there with much larger vehicles.  I dont think it would work as well as they think.

I myself drive through there and the Altamont Ave intersection every day to go to work.  The only problem I see is the traffic trying to get out of Princetown Road.  Thats a morning nightmare.  The intersection at Altamont is insane.  They need to put a cop there in the mornings just for the sake of road rage.  Im going through there at about 745am and its free flowing then.  But you have so many jerks racing through to cut in front of everyone to head down Altamont.  They need to do something about that.  And then you get the people wanting to get into Price Chopper and everyone has to go around them.

Id like to see something better for 5 corners but I cant see a double going in there.  Too much traffic with the big rigs that wont be able to make tight turns.

What about the railroad bridge on Curry?  There is no way they will be able to rip that out for a 4 lane unless someone oks it.  Id love to see it evened out, wider and higher.  But you know there will be a fight on who will pay for it.  I dread going under that thing in the winter.  And one morning I was stuck on Curry because there was a truck stuck under it.

there is so much traffic due to decades of poor planning in rotterdam, that the side roads are getting busier. Folks will go out of their way by a block or two and drive the side roads to avoid the busier ones.

And with all of the mfh/condos going up it will only get worse. imo

again, the buses, tractor trailers and emergency vehicles should be considered.

he other thing that drives me nuts is the speed.  In the morning there are a lot of little kids out there waiting for the buses.  I watch people flying down the roads.  Would allowing free flow traffic circles control this a little more?
