If the taxpayers were able to vote for the board of directors and on the budget for the Charter School .. then I would have no problem with the Charter School receiving tax dollars. Since, we can't .. then they should not receive a penny of tax dollars.
Any other motives - assigned by others - for my position are just a bunch of horse manure and/or the incoherent blathering of wing-nuts. |

taking taxpayers dollars away from public schools is NOT removing the middleman .. it is ADDING another "middle man" between you and where your tax dollars are being spent. |

True, but they're also spending less per child on children that aren't mine. It's called economizing. I don't hear the public school district complaining that they keep money for students they're not teaching. |

Kevin, The bottom-line is ... charter schools are NOT accountable to the property tax payers .... at least public schools are run by school boards elected by the residents of the school district and their budgets must be approved by the residents of the school districts. And -- public school districts have complained about the funds being diverted from their districts to charter schools ... I have heard it mentioned at school board meetings and in various media. |

The current system in public schools is working so well that the kids aren't learning enough to graduate or pass the college boards so the answer is to throw more money at the problem and hope it goes away. The whole educational system needs to be completely rebuilt from the scratch. |

Our public schools are graduating illiterate kids at an alarming rate for the first time in history!! If this weren't true, charter schools would not even be a topic. Sure, the kids may know how to put a condom on a cuke, and they may know that Sally has two mommies and Johnny has two daddy's, but don't ask them how much 10 + 10 is!!! And don't AXE 'EM how to spell Mississippi!!! Our public school system is a disaster!!! Bring in the charter schools!!! They clearly can't do worse!!! |

Have you ever watched a sales clerk try to make change when there's a power failure and the registers aren't working, they can't do it so the store closes until the power is restored. |

Public schools are accountable ... because the school board is elected by the residents and the school budget has to be approved by the voters. Stanford University did a study which shoots holes in the statements that Charter Schools do any better than Public Schools: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi.....rmance_Study.svg.png |

Not all charter schools spend less per child either --- there are some that spend more. |

I never said charter schools do/did better.....what I said was even with a school board the 'status quo' of the system is kept up.....it's a dirty shame hold the 'voter machine' together with rusty bolts/screws and the train will keep barreling down the tracks the elected(fed/state) think is a direction....of course they do...the wizard holds the switch....we just dont look illiterate but,the folks coming to work in the profession I am in are alarming.... our leaders keep status quo regardless of the poor showing....hence "no child left behind" and tenure and pension padding etc etc....... |

charter schools are not accountable to the voters .. public schools are accountable to the voters ... if you folks were truly conservative --as you claim to be -- you'd be opposed to charter schools
Public schools are not accountable to "voters" but the NEA and the Teachers Union Man Dates from burrokrats that have no connection to local communities come down from on high condition black |

See, it's interesting that people say that the charter schools are not accountable to the taxpayers, the ones who can make the decision whether they want their child, and therefore a portion of the taxes that they spend going to the school.
On the other hand, you have a specific amount that you are mandated to pay, depending on where you live and how much those around you want to continue to overspend on a yearly basis for the default of where your children are going to go... and that is considered accountability? |
