I think Ron Paul is pretty clear...All he ask is, that the Congress make a Declaration of War before sending our children to war. If ethnic cleansing is a reason to go to war, and the American people support it, then it should be presented before Congress and they should vote to declare war on those committing the ethnic cleansing.
Based on my understand of Ron Paul's position, he believes that before sending our children to war, we should go through the Constitutional process of Congress declaring war before making such dire decisions. I don't consider that a radical foreign policy. As a matter of fact, it used to be considered a rational foreign policy.
I have to agree with you Box that Ron Paul's straw poll victories are not an accurate gauge of his support amongst all voters. It does suggest that he has an active organization that is trying to raise his position/rank in the large field of Republican candidate hopefuls.
There was a total of around 5000 votes cast... at $5 per vote, means that the Illinois Republican party made an easy $25,000. Not a bad scam!
It's a fundraiser dumb-a**. The people voting are completely aware of it. The participants are people that are active in local politics in their local parties. Paul winning these straw poll is more of a testament to the participation of Paul supporters in local politics and becoming influential in local political parties.
Your point is valid. A Declaration of War requires the approval of Congress. U.S. Presidents, past and present, have circumvented Congress and committed and deployed troops without receiving approval, often without informing our elected representatives, and without making the case to the American people. The power and role of our Legislative Branch has been usurped by the Executive Branch without challenge or resistance.

I would say Ron Paul winning straw polls is like the NNTP candidates gaining influence inside the Town and County Republican parties. He may not have majority support, but he's sitting at the table and influencing decisions and the conversation.
Ron Paul is an IDEA, he truly is the embodiment of a Revolution of thought on how America is governed. The straw polls are an indicator that Paul supporters are extremely active in the political system and he is motivating people that truly want limited government and liberty to get involved and have their voice heard.
You are one who should know Brad, passion, hard work, and persistence can accomplish a lot. But it takes time to take root, the Paul movement is just now taking root.(And he's been working on it for 30 years!)

Sorry Sally, I didn't know you were so sensitive. I guess dumb a** is too strong of language for you.
This is what led me to remove Ron Paul from consideration for receiving my vote and support. Kucinich is a (far left) wing nut. One of the most liberal of all elected officials presently in Congress. He scores an 18% from the Heritage Foundation for conservative voting record ( http://heritageactionscorecard.com/scorecard/#Kucinich#name ). Kucinich is against capital punishment but for abortion. He supports universal healthcare.
So in other words you want to continue party politics and the status quo. This isn't about left vs right this is about coming together on important issues, Paul doesn't agree with everything Kucinich believes and vice versa but they have worked together on previous policies.

My youngest son has Tourettes Syndrome with related disorders along with seizure brain activity and brain cortical dysfunction. If you knew anything about Tourettes swearing outbursts are rare. But what isn't rare is the stares and taunting from other people, the anxiety of going to school or having to quit college after two days. Being on the pop warner football team and having to be taken off the field due to a breathing tic.
Going from being a very happy outgoing child to one who becomes introverted, shy, anxious, depressed.........
Now find something wrong with people with multiple sclerosis so you can make me feel better too
I apologize RP. It was an insensitive choice of words. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone suffering from Tourettes.

Box I guess I'm just pretty sensitive on it because I know how hard it was for my son at school, many days he didn't want to go at all. He actually had a stomache tic which was very unusual and it would make him feel sick.
With my son its a very long story but his neurological issues began after he was given a prescription from a doctor (a "medication" called lindane) and there started visits to the eye doctors, many many EEG's on his brain, an MRI, tachycardia well a long list.
And then we had to bring our young son to the state police barracks due to his neurologist being accused of sexual acts with his young male patients.
And then issues at school to get needed services.
He did graduate from Sch'dy High and enrolled at SCC but had to drop out after two days because he couldn't handle being around so many people etc.
This all started when he was seven years old. When he was diagnosed with Tourette's I read up alot on it and actually had a woman who travels all around the United States to educate the educators come to Sch'dy High to give a talk to his teachers and other staff who worked with him. Only two staff showed up and I apologized to the Tourettes expert for the low turn out, she told me that she had NEVER been to a school for a student where so few staff showed up and she realized the struggle we had getting what he needed and what we had been going through just to get him basic help.
My son's biggest tic was eye blinking and it broke my heart to see him struggling just to read homework assignments etc.
BUT we did have some lighter moments. Like when our aging cat had a twitchy tail my son said "Patches has Tourettes too"
And we did watch the South Park episode.
Sorry for the long post but just want people to realize that there are medical conditions that not only show up physically, but are very hard to live with emotionally, especially for children.
No need to apologize Box , we can just continue debating RP
I dont know why that 'medication' is even still on the market.....we double glove in nursing when using it.....It's a shame that happened.....maybe someday they will have a 'remedy'.....

Senders The EPA banned it a few years ago but the FDA continues to say the benefits outweigh the risks
The Stockholm Convention banned it but the US would not ratify it.
As for Lindane still being on the market well think of lobbyists
Glad you are aware of it's dangers and hope you spread the word. Thanks.
I never heard of Lindane so I just googled it. I too am surprised that it is still legal in this country. thanks for sharing yourstory. It helps us to all feel more human and allows us to put things into perspective. I guess in the scope of life, 'some things' aren't really that important! thanks again.
