Paul came in 2nd in the Iowa Straw Poll losing by only 150 votes, Bachmann came in first. This is one hell of a win for us though, 2nd place here means he is a top contender

Nearly 17,000 Iowans weighed in on the contest, giving Bachmann bragging rights as the Iowa Straw Poll victor -- and, perhaps, a burst of momentum -- with 28 percent of the votes cast. Texas Rep. Ron Paul came in a close second, while former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who was looking for a strong showing to boost his struggling candidacy, fared a distant third.

GOOD NEWS! If your Ron Paul. He DIDN'T win the Iowa straw poll!!!
Only once in history has the winner of the Iowa poll gone on to be US President... that was George Worst Bush (and look how bad that all turned out). Bachmann is DONE. But since Paul didn't win the Straw poll, maybe he does have a chance.
The Iowa Straw poll is nothing more than a fund raiser for Republicans... not really a poll. The only way you get to vote is if you make a hefty donation to the GOP.

I agree Paul coming in second is quite possibly better than coming first. If Paul won they would have dismissed the whole poll like they did so many of the other ones he won, the media was already trying to dismiss it if Paul won but now they're giving it credibility again. Bachmann will only go down hill from here I believe, with Perry jumping in that will further dilute the votes while Paul supporters remain faithful.

I think it was $30 to cast a vote, independents and dems were also allowed to vote but I doubt there was many there other than Republicans.

It has become very difficult watching FOX news as of late. We complained when the liberal media 'selected' obama. Well FOX isdoing the same thing with Bachmann...UGH!!!
Ya got Huckabee in Iowa gloating almost to the point of embarrassment over bachmann. Went on and on how she came in first place. Then said something like....'oh and paul came in 2nd'.........then instantly went on to the rest of the runners up and also made Perry a major issue.
God help us all if obama or any of these 'selected republican candidates' get elected.
And as a side note........bachmann's voice is like someone running their fingernails on a chalk board!!! Don't get me wrong here....I do think she is a smart woman and does have her place in the rep party and politics.....just not in the oval office!!!
FOX IS TRYING TO PICK THE WINNER!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I disagree in part. In the beginning FOX was 'fair and balanced'. They sold out to the reps just as cnn and msnbc sold out to the dems. Remember.....CNN was fair and balanced at one time too.
They are ALL propaganda arms of a political party!!! Even our local media!! They have all allowed themselves to be bought by political parties. Real journalism is now a thing of the past.

The Right has been denying that Fixed News is biased for so long that they believe it... until the bias happens to disagree with their political agenda... LMAO! Then, all of a sudden, the realize it!
CNN is as unbiased as news will be. But after watching Fixed News long enough, the TRUTH seems biased.

The Iowa Straw Poll: 2011 Straw Poll Full Results (Votes, %) 1. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (4823, 28.55%) 2. Congressman Ron Paul (4671, 27.65%) 3. Governor Tim Pawlenty (2293, 13.57%) 4. Senator Rick Santorum (1657, 9.81%) 5. Herman Cain(1456, 8.62%) 6. Governor Rick Perry (718, 3.62%) write-in 7. Governor Mitt Romney (567, 3.36%) 8. Speaker Newt Gingrich (385, 2.28%) 9. Governor Jon Huntsman (69, 0.41%) 10. Congressman Thad McCotter (35, 0.21%)
Mixed results... If you consider that in the country Mitt Romney had a majority of Republican votes, and yet in the Iowa poll he had less than 4 % of the vote... and that Ron Paul had between 7 and 10% likely voters, yet ended up with 28% in Iowa... It kind of gives you the feeling that the Iowa poll does not reflect the actual choice of the country.

Organization, evangelical appeal power Paul to 2nd By KASIE HUNT | 8/13/11 8:57 PM EDT
AMES, Iowa — Ron Paul’s narrow-second place finish at the Ames straw poll was a demonstration of the Texas congressman’s intensified organization and a message retooled to appeal to Iowa conservatives — and a clear sign that he’s going to be a continued presence going into the 2012 election.
Paul got 4,671 votes, losing to Rep. Michele Bachmann by just 152 votes, and placing well ahead of former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, whose months of work and major investment delivered him just 2,293 votes.
Paul’s supporters were hoping a win here would prove their legitimacy, and Paul’s entourage came armed with statements from previous presidential candidates offering exhortations about just how important winning the straw poll is.
“Obviously,” senior Paul strategist Doug Wead told POLITICO Saturday when asked if an Ames victory would mean more than other straw poll wins. “We have the statements of all these other candidates, Romney on down about the importance of the Ames vote. Even those who are saying it’s not important now, they’re on the record saying it’s important.”
“Relatively speaking, yes that true,” Paul told POLITICO after his speech here when asked if winning at Ames was more important than previous polls he’s topped. “It can give you a boost in morale, and encouragement — for me, it’s always a vote for the endorsement of the views of the concerns of liberty.”....................>>>>.............>>>>...................Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/61325.html#ixzz1V0k1Cx2v
Ron Paul, the libertarian, who believes in limited government, free market economics and isolationist foreign policy, but when it comes to the abortion issue... he's just another Right Wing Conservative.
Freedom! Small Govt! Keep out of Foreign Countries... but on the issue of choice??? How disappointing.

Not isolationist but non-interventionism, those who want to place sanctions on other countries are more isolationists then Paul. As far as abortion goes Ron Paul delivered over 4,000 babies in his day, you can see why he is pro-life, actually many pro-choice people understand why he has the feelings he does and really don't bash him over it. Many libertarians are pro-choice, Gary Johnson who is running for president is pro-choice.
