Ronald Reagan was the oldest US president, elected at the age of 69. We all remember how Reagan faded as the job overwhelmed him. By his second term Reagan was already suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Ron Paul will be 77 when he takes office if elected in 2012... already the age that Reagan was when he left office. Paul is a spry young man for a soon to be 76year old but as with Reagan... time waits for no man.
The last term of Reagan's presidency was administered by Reagan aids, staff and his cabinet... none of whom were elected. Something to consider when you vote in '12.
Are you actually using age discrimination as a reason not to vote for Ron Paul? Imagine if a conservative used gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation to persuade people to not vote for a Democrat. Reverend Al and Jessie would be marching in the streets. But...Since its age discrimination of an old white male, no big deal.
I agree with that Box, Obama's Alzheimers kicked in as soon as he took office and we see what this has led to, forgotten campaign promises There is never a guarantee on what will happen but we must stand by our principles when voting or else the vote is meaningless.
Fine Henry... You can ignore the obvious, but the rest of America won't. There is a 42% chance that a 77 year old will come down with Alzheimers if he serves out two terms. A 1% or 2% chance for every one else running.

I don't want to limit anyone from running for office because of age (even though the US Constitution already does that) but age is a factor in deciding your vote. So is race, gender, sexual orientation, martial status, religion, education... all are factors in deciding which candidate to vote for or against. (But Cicero already knows that... he just hasn't had his grumpy post for the day.)

Age-Adjusted Percentage of Civilian, Noninstitutionalized Population with Diagnosed Diabetes, by Race and Sex, United States, 1980–2009
I guess you would have to look at the fact that the black population has a greater chance of developing diabetes statistically than all other races. Gee...That's something to think about when voting for president...Please.

Cicero is having another bad day.
If diabetes were a permanent disabling disease like Alzheimer, then yes... but of course it isn't. If diabetes were uncontrollable then yes it might... but of course it isn't. If diabetes is the reason you post such nonsense... but of course it isn't.
The health of a candidate has always been a factor when deciding on a choice for US President. The job, if done right is grueling and takes a toll, so stamina and health are a factor.

The subject was Ron Paul's age and the age of US Presidents. Some how Cicero thinks this is pertinent.

No, you were talking about a genetic disease and it's statistical probability in a particular population. You measured Alzheimer's and age, I measured Diabetes and race. Both are deadly diseases. There are dozens of ways to use these statistics to show how silly your argument is.

OK Cicero... Try to focus: A candidate who suffers from (of likely will) Alzheimer's would incapacitate him from serving as president. When Reagan had the disease it was hidden from the public and no one was in charge at the White House.
If instead a candidate had Diabetes, could serve as President in every way (except eating White House Cake) as if he didn't have the disease.
One the president's brain is jello... the other he's perfectly healthy under dietary restrictions and medication.
One he's jello... the other he's normal...
One he's jello... the other he's a good candidate to be elected president.
Got it???

Yes, I'm focusing, I'm focusing on your ridiculous nonsense argument. You make more illogical jumps, comparing Reagan to Paul and Alzheimer's.
I guess if in 2012, and you're a 43 year old White Catholic Male and running for President, voters should take into consideration that he may have addisons disease since Kennedy had it.
C'mon box, you aren't serious, are you? Do you go through life making illogical decisions like that?
How about this fact box:

The average age of members of the 111th Congress is among the highest of any Congress in recent U.S. history.4 The average age of Senators at the beginning of the 111th Congress was 63.1 years, approximately 1.5 years greater than that of the 110th Congress (61.7 years) and three years older than that of Senators in the 109th Congress (60.1 years). At the beginning of the 111th Congress, the average age of members of the House, including Delegates and the Resident Commissioner, was 57.2 years, over a year older than that of Representatives in the 110th Congress (55.9 years), and almost two years older than that of Representatives in the 109th Congress (55.1 years). The average age of all members in both houses is 58.2 years. At the beginning of the 111th Congress, the average age of new members of the House, including a Delegate and the Resident Commissioner, was 49.8 years. The average age of new Senators was 57.1 years.
If you still can function with the drugs you've taken, go back to the post about A G E! If Ron Paul were elected he'd be the OLDEST US PRESIDENT IN HISTORY. Remember?
According to the chart, a 42% chance of Alzheimer. That shouldn't disqualify Paul from serving, but age is a factor when considering the qualities of a candidate.
For normal people... this has been redundant and I apologize... for Cicero... he probably still hasn't got it. I'm done instructing him for the evening.

Box you have no compassion .
My aunt is going through Alzhiemers right now, she started showing symptoms at age 60, she is now 66. My grandmother had it, my hubby's father and now his Mom.
I still remember the first time my grandmother forgot who I was. But saying her brain was JELLO ! : ( NO it was my sweet grandmother who l loved with all my heart and I was a kid at the time and didn't understand what was happening to her just that she forgot who I was.
Do you understand anything about Alzheimers and the pain and angush that so many go through.?
Most know I have MS, well my last visit to my neuro he was pushing me to go into a clinical trial for a medication. He told me that if I didn't I would lose my mind, yup he said this three times.
So Box anyone that has any brain disorder you feel is not capable of making decisions or of being valued as a human being, or do you refer to them all as Jello?
And by the way diabetes can be devastating as well. Used to work with a nurses aide who had it, she tried to control it with meds etc. She died of complications of it in her 50's.
As for Ron Paul, he has more morals, compassion and honesty than many. AND an ambundant amount of energy, wish I had half of the energy he has. If you are so fixated on his age oh well, guess you think the elderly are Jello too.
