Romney got the needed 38%+ that people said he had to get to be in line with other non-incumbent GOP candidates that won NH and then the nomination. He is the only non-incumbent GOP candidate to ever win Iowa and NH back to back... If he wins SC, its game over.

The difference during this primary than previous is this.
The 50K people that voted for Paul aren't the same people that supported Huckabee 4 years ago, then ultimately backed McCain. The 50K won't go out and vote for Romney, and Romney NEEDS THOSE VOTERS. Paul supporters will not fall for the "anybody but Obama" scare tactic, they would rather write in Paul.
Ron Paul has a very large bargaining chip, and I'm guessing he has already been speaking with the Romney camp to discuss executive appointment like at the Federal Reserve Chairman, along with what will be in the platform at the convention.

Anyone who places second has a bargaining chip. But there is a balance of what the 2nd place finisher gets and what it will cost the nominee in potential supporters than are not disciples of Ron Paul. In the end, the Paul people have the same choice the social conservatives will have, either vote for Romney or get four more years of Obama. If they go the stay home or write in route, they get what they deserve and should keep their mouths shut until 2016

Paul is now tied for 2nd place in the national polls with 17%, Newt also has 17%. If Paul as I expect becomes the anti-Romney candidate it will still be a close match. I really don't see Romney getting either the fiscal or social conservative vote over Paul, with his record of being pro-choice just 4 years ago that will be a problem.

Is 8 years of Bush any better than these 3 years of Obama? Have you heard of No Child Left Behind, Perscription Drug Benefit, Patriot Act?
You expect Paul supporters to be used by another statist? Bush destroyed any chance that fiscal conservative - constitutionalist will come out for another Republican whose rhetoric so obviously doesn't match his/her record. Romney isn't going to get the Paul supporters unless he does something like makes Rand Paul his VP nominee.

Paul is more of a libertarian candidate/fiscal conservative type than a social conservative. The social conservatives will only support Paul grudgingly. If Paul is the one of the two men standing after Florida, the press will destroy him when they start mentioning his "racist" statements and his loony plan to trim 1 trillion from the budget on inaugural day reducing Medicaid by 32% and food stamps by 64%. The congress would never go along with it and even if they did, you'd have riots in the streets that would make the Occupy folks look like a friday night bridge club.
Romney's flip on abortion hurts him both ways.. he should have stuck to his guns on being pro-choice because he gets more independents that way.

If he chooses Rand Paul as VP, he might as well renew Obamas lease on the white house until 2016. In reality, the Paul supporters are not going to elect the next president, neither are the pubs or Dems, its the independents... they elected Obama and they will make the difference this time too.

I think him flipping whatever way the wind is blowing is going to cost him overall. What ammunition will he have on Obama when they agreed on most issues, he can't go after Obamacare with Romney's past history in MASS. His anti-2nd amendment record is worst than Obama's believe it or not. The way I see it if Romney receives the nomination the republican party has lost any credibility of being the party of small government, it is already hanging by a thread and that would just seal the deal.

Have you read the internal polling? The Paul supporters are HUGELY independent.

The problem is, there plain isn't that many of them.... They are a classic example of the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If Paul can't break 25% with REPUBLICANS, what makes you think he will do well with independents?
