Since Ron likes to spend everyone's money, I wonder how many times his aunts have used the services of the Senior Center?  I'm guessing they rarely, if ever, go there or participate in their events.

My boss's mother AND father are seniors and gets 'in home' care from a 'private nursing home'. Paid by medicare. There are other seniors that I know that are getting in home visits from The Eddy. Paid by medicare. And the services range from cna's to hha's to lpn's to rn's......depending on the need. And this is all in Schenectady county. All covered by medicare and in some cases medicaid. There are also many organizations that bus seniors to doctor visits and hospital visits.

Let me also add that there is a growing number of cases where seniors are hospitalized and will NOT be discharged unless it is a safe discharge. And in many cases, returning to their home is not considered safe. The hospitals are now summonsing the children of these seniors and are holding 'them' responsible for the safety of their parents. YUP.....it is happening more frequently than not. Senior's safety is beginning to be monitored just like CPA is monitoring the safety of children. Basically holding the 'next of kin' responsible.

The rotterdam senior gossip center should not be turned into yet ANOTHER arm of the government. I'm sure we can all agree that there are enough in place already. Proposing anything more from the rotterdam gossip center, is only a self promotion job not needed. Close the place!!!

Who cares what he used.  I don't care if he stole it.  You all are missing the point.  Your senior center has no validity anymore.  Younger seniors aren't going there--just the opposite.  This week I was invited to speak at a roundtable meeting with Senators Vaesky and Golden.  If the Dept. of Aging aka NYSOFA gets gobbled up by the Dept. of Health because the SAGE Commission makes that recommendation your center is out.  Why you ask-- because you don't do any of the things that help seniors age in place.  Nobody is even making any home visits.

GOOD VALID POINT....that was always the issue.....it was ALWAYS a 'fancy' playground with no substance.....go play cards/paint at your friends
home....

aging in place is up to the family not the government

If the stars are "going to be there long after everyone in the room is gone," and they are permanently attached to the property, affixed in some manner to the ground via concrete or bolts, then why are they not covered under the exemption of a capital improvement? Someone needs to get an opinion in writing from tax and finance.

Secondly as to cameras in a work area, there can be no sound recording, but a camera is not out of the question. If they record sound (like Angelo Satanbarbera's ) then they are illegal.

Hey.........I'm all for cameras IF NEEDED for safety/security purposes...........BUT IN A SMALL TOWN SENIOR CENTER???? 'Pocket books stolen'? Paleeeezzzzeeee!! That is just the usual liberal fear tactic to push their political/personal agenda through. That is the biggest cover up, smoke and mirrors EVER!!!

DM reached an all time low by getting involved in this bullcrap. imo
It appeared that she was the koza's water girl for this one. I thought she was smarter than that......no?

As far as the STARS for the monument......they could and should be purchased through the rotterdam town hall which would then make them tax exempt....as they should be. It should be classified as a 'charitable donation'.

Hell, rotterdam should have bought a bunch, added a few bucks to the purchase price, sold them tax free and made a few bucks......no?

As for the cameras

I was asked in January what could be done to protect the taxpayers and their assets when community groups use the building

After walking thru the building

And asking questions about the day care center the kitchens and intend use

I suggested a digital video recording system

After discussing budget numbers with Ms Marco it was determined to be too expensive for the taxpayers of the town

I told her I would keep looking.

In early Feb. I made the decision to donate a system and labor for such a system and clearly stated I was not certified by NYS to install security systems

A decision was made within the town that if the system was free the certification was not an issue as access would be turned over to the RPD.

I decided to make a donation to  reduce or protect the taxpayers burden

Now that the installation at senior center is in question I am open to suggestions
It is an indoor system.

NY requires a "low voltage" electricians license to install security cameras in any public structure (not homes) ... I don't believe there's any exemption for public buildings.  If it's used for security purposes (monitored) there are other licenses and provisions necessary.

Who asked you?

And have there been previous complaints about 'things' being stolen or that there have been previous safety issues?

Todd,

I can't speak to the need for the cameras or their intended use, but think that it's commendable that you donated both the
security system and your labor to install them.  Perhaps, if more residents would make such selfless gestures, we wouldn't
have to rely on government to provide for all of our needs.

Although I'm not a resident of the Town of Rotterdam, I thank you for trying to make your community a nicer place to live.

I'd have to believe that Mr. koza has the licenses needed and that the rotterdam town board confirmed it before having him install these security cameras.

And by the way...........who monitors them???

I have no idea who "Mr Koza" is, nor did I know who made the donation - I was just stating a fact. Is he an electrician?

Still, as Brad said, the donation was a very nice thing to do! Kudos for the donation!
