~ "For the past two years, a family of four earning the median income has paid less in federal income taxes than at any time since at least 1955".

~ "All federal, state and local taxes combined are a lower percentage of per-capita income than at any time since the 1960s".

~ According to the Tax Foundation, the highest income-tax bracket is its lowest since 1992. At 35 percent, it's well below the 50 percent mark of much of the 1980s and the 70 percent bracket of the 1970s."

This is the most foolish nonsense ever. Obviously written by someone who never ran so much as a lemonade stand and most certainly never created a job in his lifetime.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Nor lived in nys and tried to raise a family. Most folks pay approximately 60 cents on a dollar that go to ALL combined taxes and fees!!!

this report is all bullcrap. Must be coming from the same source that is saying the economy is coming back.

Yeah, for people who pay no tax and get earned income credit, things are coming up daisies. Anyone who creates jobs, builds things, takes risks,  is enterprising and improves society, and spreads wealth is taking it up the a$$.

The IRS tracks the tax returns of the 400 highest adjusted gross incomes. The average income in 2007 was nearly $345 million. Their average federal income tax rate was 17 %, down from 26 % in 1992.

Over the same period, the average federal income tax rate for all taxpayers declined to 9.3 % from 9.9 %.

The top income tax rate is 35 %, yet they average 17%

Why did Obama extend the tax cuts if he planned on doing this record spending?  Didn't he have this information?

So the bottom fifty percent or so of tax payers who pay no tax now need to pay more? Is that what you want?

The title of this thread is wrong it should read FEDERAL INCOME taxes at historic lows. This has no application to any NYS resident. Our property tax rate is 78% higher than the national average and this County some of the highest property taxes in the Nation. On top of that we have a ridiculous State income taxes/sales/gas taxes. This horrible County even taxes home heating oil. NYC residents have an additional City income tax. Talk to someone from Texas with no State income tax about low taxes-then this California article might have some relevance.

Right now 45% of households pay NO Federal income tax, some even get money from the gov't.
The "no pays" do it through deductions and credits. If those deductions and credits were not there, the 45% would fall to 27%.

We should enact a flat tax with no deductions, or better yet eliminate the income tax and replace it with a national sales tax w/exemptions for food, housing and utilities so the low income people don't get hit hard.

So based on these numbers, the highest earners pay nearly double the average federal income tax rate of all taxpayers.  Box, do you think it should be triple?

I read in the DG that HALF of the revenue comes from the top 10% of earners and ever worse 44% comes from the top 5% of earners. Box would have the other 90% take up the slack and increase the taxes on the struggling middle class. Because he is a communist. I am opposed. ANYONE WHO PAYS TAXES PAYS TOO MUCH. Those NOT PAYING A CENT need to start carrying the load.
