Metroplex Chairman Ray Gillen criticized the original deal on Friday, saying it was poorly researched. Gillen became chairman in 2004, three years after the first loan was made to Myers, and most of the Metroplex board has turned over in the meantime. “The current Metroplex board had no role in this project. The Parker project was approved by the previous Metroplex board and board chair back in 2001,” he said.
Gillen said the Parker Inn program was “burdened by too much debt, which will be addressed through the Chapter 11 process. The due diligence performed on the original project was inadequate, especially with regard to debt service versus income from the hotel.

Guess Gillen is implying that he is 'smarter' than Neil, huh? I believe Mr. Golub was on the board from the plex's inception.  Gee, looks like Gillen should be the CEO of the Golub Corporation.............perhaps? I mean look at the GREAT job gillen has done since he took over!!! Can't wait to see what the next plex chair has to say about gillen's past projects!!!

The entire Metrograft affair is a disgrace and a taxpayer ripoff. They can pass the buck all they want. Manning was better than Gillen. At least he attempted to get public input and everything wasn't DEM members only.

There are many people walking around with egg on their faces today. The Gazetto has also made fools out of themselves trying to soft pedal this bankruptcy that will cost County taxpayers millions.

Isn't that what pathetic Death Ray is pulling down $200,000 plus benes for? County planner/Metrograft "leader" who has no planning education.

Here's a plan to save the City-throw every DEM moron out of office. And yes Smoking/DVR Paul V was attacking you DEM morons again today. How's that boycott working?lol. Nothing changes in Schenectady. Everyone is talking about the latest Metrograft debacle and Death Ray feeble attempt to blame others for his failure to act.

Further evidence of the great follow through and oversight by the "leadership" at Metrograft. After they got caught with their pants down in the State Audit they blamed the State Comptroller, when the Parker Inn goes belly up they blame the former director.

Why didn't Death Ray revisit the old agreements if he knew they were so bad? He was too busy speaking to national bookstores and toy stores-lol. Meanwhile many of the same board members sit in silence on the Metrograft bored. We have the useless DSIC that doesn't notice when 90 tree grates {weighing 6,000 pounds} disappear and useless Metrograft that doesn't notice when another project goes bust. The lights are on-but no one is home.

The plex has got to be abolished before they add more damage to the already economic train wreck in Schenectady!!!!!

Amen! Can't the Governor take one more failed Nisky DEM of our hands?

Metrograft is still owed $683,911.76 from its original $800,000 loan! And it gets worse. The Parker Inn also received a $1 MILLION jackpot from oppressed County taxpayers. Two other banks loaned $750,000 EACH to them. A complete debacle which Death Ray did nothing to make workable.

Has anyone driven down seward place lately? OMG!!! The road is a complete disaster!!! All of the road are! The cities infrastructure is falling down around the one block of state street and nobody says or does NOTHING!! With the taxes being the highest in the state, one would think that the roads should be paved in gold!

So while the roads are literally falling apart, businesses going bankrupt, taxes at an all time high, high vacancy rate, shooters still on the loose........the local cheerleading media has nothing to report except how great the lion king was! It is a disgrace.

Noticed a large increase in "press" coverage of Proctors, mallozzi, metroplex etc.............   Pretty much there's an article everyday mostly gazette but in the spotlight, business review and others.

Did hear something on the news the other day that the comptrollers office is investigating how money is misspent by agencies in various cities and towns and property owners paying the price, I'll have to search for that.

oh and seward place this in yesterday's TU
SCHENECTADY -- Seward Place between Nott Street and Roger Hull Place will be closed to all but local traffic in the southbound direction from 8-10 a.m. Tuesday so pavement repairs can be made for a newly installed water line.

Southbound traffic will be detoured onto Park Place during the closure. Northbound traffic will not be affected, city officials said.

The repair work is being done by Mark A. Karandy's Plumbing and Heating of Duanesburg.

thanks for the update on seward. It is really a mess.

So what is their excuse for the rest of the city roads?

Have many times has Seward been redone in the past decade? Right up there with Dean @ Union. Home to the Stratton Memorial Bench and brick pavers! New curbs and brick cross walk scream renaissance!

Seward will be redone but with all the phony "renaissance" news no money for Brandywine, Eastern, Union, Crane, lower Broadway or other main roads in desperate need of basic repair. A real bonanza for shock installers, realignment experts and dentists.

the roads are horrendous to put it mildly. The highest taxed county in the state and they don't have $$$$ to maintain their infrastructure.

Nothing changes. Your Metrograft authority at "work". Maybe Death Ray can blame the prior administration? Look for a 3rd redo-ala Seward Place. Planning ideas for Florida don't always transfer well to these winters. Instead of saving funds they cost more because it has to be redone over and over.

Benny do you know how much was spent of city money to redo Seward?  They supposedly completely rebuilt it from the foundation up when they did the Union project.  It barely lasted a year before breaking up.  The contractors were never held accountable.  I bet these same folks are still getting contracts through the city.  This should have been investigated years ago but with the corruption in this city it won't be.
