Re Robert Briber’s March 1 letter, “Gateway Landing seems perfect place to dock the Onrust”: Mr. Briber’s idea for a new site for docking the Onrust was spot-on. There will be nothing more enjoyable during the upcoming season than to see the Onrust anchored at the Mohawk River’s edge in the Binnekill. It hasn’t happened. But could it? After all, it was built upstream in Rotterdam. It belongs here and would make all the difference in its new, temporary home. Schenectady officials continue to remind its citizens that the city is broke. But tourist dollars are for the asking, since the city is so rich in history. The Onrust could only add to the city’s history. Someone once said, “if you want anything done, don’t leave it to the politicians.” Common Council President [Gary] McCarthy’s comment of how “inappropriate” it would be to dock the Onrust at the city’s public park, on a public navigable waterway, defies common sense. He caved in to pressure from the naysayers. They’ve been known to scare and harass many of us down here over the years. But I stand my ground and will not back down. A good compromise plan by the City Council was to allow the Onrust to be docked on a temporary basis for two years. Those who enjoy the river and all it has to offer would have it for half the year while the naysayers would have it their way for the other half. Schenectady surely doesn’t need, or deserve, any more negative commentary from clueless politicians and residents who are hellbent on their view of how things should be. Another look at getting the Onrust back on the Mohawk is a worthy endeavor indeed.

I guess Mr. Plante has to be reminded that more people will go to the Gateway Landing L-O-N-G before they will go anywhere near the over taxed, high crime, streets crumbling, welfare ridden city!!!

Even long time DEM committeemen are tired of McCarthy? Maybe there is hope. The problem in the City is not the lack of the Onrust-it's the lack of a two party system. "The Onrust would be a dynamic catalyst for City economic revitalization"-lol.
I'd love to see the Onrust at Gateway Landing as I mentioned a few months ago in that other thread about the dock. But Rittner won't have it I don't think and I don't think I blame him either. Too much crime that no one does anything about.
FOURTEEN houses "tagged" with Graffitti down here, just this past Saturday night! Fourteen of them!
Maybe the Onrust will make you forget about the record City taxes/fees?-lol Locating the Onrust is the smallest of your problems. How can we relocate more of the DEM fossils? Maybe Gov Cuomo can create more lob jobs.
