No more marshal with a badge, outgunned by bad men, using his wits, reason, abilities and interpersonal skills to keep the peace, and knowing how, when and on whom to dole out violence and oh-so very judiciously. Men like that are extinct. They were real lawmen. They gave the meaning to the term 'peace officer.'

ROTTERDAM — An unusually busy night on Friday at the Rollarama Skating Rink ended with two teens getting arrested, police said. Rotterdam Lieutenant Tom Culbert said that offi cers were called to the skating rink around 10 p.m. as a precautionary measure because of an unruly crowd during closing. He added that there was a particularly large crowd due to a false rumor that was spread on Facebook that the rink would be closing after that night. While three officers were outside the building, two 13-yearolds got into a fight that was broken up by on-site security. Before it was ended, the aggressor got on top of the victim and repeatedly punched him, according to Culbert. After the victim was led outside, he was followed by his attacker, who emerged “fl ailing and screaming,” said Culbert. He said the young man came out swinging at everybody and then went after his earlier victim again. The two were separated again, after which the youth was backed away by the officers, who repeatedly warned him to calm down. Culbert said that police then warned him about four times that they would use their Tazer on him, but he did not calm down and they tazed him. He was “OK” after being tazed, said Culbert. The young man has been charged in family court with obstructing government administration, with other charges possibly pending, according to Culbert. A 17-year-old was also arrested and charged with harassment, said Culbert, after he was thrown out of the rink for possibly instigating the fight and then allegedly pushed an officer.
ROTTERDAM, N.Y.-- A fight at a Schenectady County roller rink ended with a 13-year-old boy being tased by police.
According to the Rotterdam Police Department, authorities responded to a fight between two boys at the Rollerama Rink Friday night.
The rink owner told News 10 there was a packed crowd at the rink for Friday night's skating.
Rotterdam Police said they responded, but to break up the fight they had to use a taser on one of the children.
Love how chnl 10 reports the news. Can't call it "Rotterdam" have to say a Schenectady County roller rink.
Call them Children Yep children, yep just boys. Heard of children and boys that age being put on trial for murder charged as an adult. Give me a break.
we need to set the standard and goal higher with our lingo.....not teens....they can have jobs and be responsible.....we need to stop the "they are only kids"......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Perhaps the rpd aren't as seasoned as the the spd when it comes to 'gangs'! I'm sure they will gain more experience as the city element continues to cross it's city/town boarders!!
Because it really makes no sense that THREE cops could not put down a 13 YEAR OLD!! Perhaps they should have called for back up if they felt threatened.
I feel bad for the rollerama owners. They provide a great service that has been in rotterdam for decades!! They have helped produce award winning skaters. Hopefully this was just a one time fluke and won't happen again any time too soon.

according to the owner two of the rpd were busy with the 17 yr old who was a pretty big kid.....and there were about 150 other kids circling around them all.....plus if it keeps the city trash out of town....i'm all for it...sooner or later one of those kids is gonna shoot or stab someone....i think i'm okay with the proactive approach....
To "this is awesome" I have not spoken to you. Please refrain from stating that you have information on this topic. By putting "According to the owner" in your post implies that you (whoever you are) and I have talked. And we have not. I would appreciate it if you would not state that you have talked with me when you haven't.

I am no wide-eyed liberal who thinks that the punks are right and the cops are wrong. Far from it. I think that the militarization of law enforcement when dealing with people is getting a little thick for my taste and comfort level. Use of these devices would be considered torture if used on the terrorists we capture on the battlefield overseas yet we see their use becoming more and more frequent to the extent that police are even tasering elderly people for being argumentive over traffic tickets. We have fully auto weaponry, body armor, military weapons, flash grenades, tasers, and blinding lights to the extent that police automatically treat every incident as if it were John Dillinger and Billy the Kid combined on the other end. I am not entirely comfortable with the militant nature of it. Settling a dispute or fisticuffs doesn't always mean resorting to this kind of force but I am under the belief that the training is calling for it. Just as the training calls for high capacity magazines and the indiscriminate firing of as many rounds into or at an assailant rather than old fashioned marksmanship, which used to be the standard. Laying down suppressing fire with overwhelming firepower may be ideal on a foreign battlefield yet America is not a foreign battlefield.
My question is more one of the overall direction of where civilian law enforcement is heading. Where does it end? What is the next tool? A Buck Rogers device? One which imobilizes through a shock or electrical wave every person in the Rollarama building until Police can safely enter and sort out who is in the wrong? Tell me if you have a problem with that. Because that is where these tools are heading.
Ask around and find out if the Geneva Conventions allow for these devices in the handling of prisoners of war. Liberals are so concerned about how we handle the war criminals and want to give them even higher standards of protection than GC allows. Do our troops use tasers to get information from terrorists? Do the MPs use them on POWs?
