MVP reports $6M drop in net income in 2010 The Business Review Date: Friday, April 1, 2011, 11:56am EDT
MVP Health Care reported 2010 net income of $40 million, on total revenue of $3.0 billion. Because the Schenectady-based health insurer operates as a non-profit, that $40 million represents a contribution to its reserves. This brings MVP’s reserves to $372 million In 2009, MVP had net income of $46 million, also on revenue of $3.0 billion. “MVP Health Care is financially responsible for meeting its members’ health care needs,” said Frank Fanshawe, vice president of corporate affairs. “We are pleased that our overall 2010 results demonstrate that we are moving in the right direction and that we have the financial strength necessary to meet the needs of our employer customers, providers and members,” he said. The insurer also reported a 6 percent decline in enrollment entering 2011. It attributed this to changing market conditions, including rising health care costs and high unemployment. Enrollment as of January was 712,000, compared with 759,000 a year ago. MVP serves members in New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

all dental plans suck....I always wonder why the dentists live outside of the medical realm along with the eye doctors.....strange....very very strange considering you have to eat to live and see the best you can to live......are they part of the AMA? maybe there is a medical war going on??

as a side note....alot of folks I work with (80-90%) have child healthplus and family healthplus.......the fight is over unless we forgoe our insurance payments.....the government has 'poored-down' folks down to the level of "at least it's cheap".....it was a shake down from the beginning and HMO's were the start.....and this has NOTHING to do with reps or dems.......it's the machine that both parties feed off of.....

Where I work, I have to be able to NOT have any other means of health insurance in order for me to get it through my employer. When my husband had his old job, we got it through his boss. There was no dental or vision plan and a cap on the Rx. He was laid off due to the company losing business thanks to the economy. His new job doesnt offer health insurance so now we can get it through my employer. Currently its a great plan. Im not complaining about it at all. Then we get a letter stating that some of the services will be cut off in the coming months and we are then offered to be able to switch to another provider. I checked out that other provider and its really not all that great. So, do I sit here with my regular health insurance and lose the dental? Or do I go to the other one that isnt too much different in services but provides a crappy dental plan. When I mean crappy, Im talking that they dont even cover routine checkups.
When I look more closely at it, it seems that not paying into a dental plan (because there isnt one) is the better option.
According to the message I got, I pay the monthly premiums and get pretty much nothing back in return. For a routine cleaning they only pay $25 of it. I have to pay the rest. For extractions and that catagory, I have to pay for the full bill. It doesnt cover devices or crowns either.
Why would i want to pay a monthly premium? How stupid is that?
Dental is still considered 'cosmetic'. Even though some heart conditions are directly related to dental issue, it still falls under the category of 'cosmetic'. And that was long before the big 'veneer' craze started.

Most dental plans aren't worth the annual premium. Unless you plan to get major dental work done(root canals,wisdom teeth extraction), it's cheaper to pay for routine check-ups out of pocket. Or if you are a hockey player or boxer, then you might want dental.
MVP isn't going anywhere.....even if another entity 'bought' them, it will remain as a cog in the Atlas Shrugged machine of government health insurance
p.s. dont forget to get your yearly check up or the SS office will drag your a$$ out of your home and put you through an MRI and do what they please in the name of National Healthcare....same animal different name....
