State to shift health costs to counties

    Tentative state budget agreements would shift the cost of $50 million in public health programs to counties, according to the New York State Association of Counties.
    Under a three-way agreement between the state Senate, the Assembly and the governor’s offi ce, the state on July 1 would eliminate reimbursement for the following public health services, now provided by counties:
    Medical examiner;
    Early intervention service coordination for special needs children under 3;
    Visiting nurses for those receiving long long-term care at home;
    Dental services for children under 21;
    Inspection and review of X-ray and radiation equipment; and
    Environmental health services.
    Not all counties offer these programs, but counties that do would have to decide whether to pay for them themselves or eliminate them, said Spencer P. Hellwig, Saratoga County administrator.
    NYSAC said the reimbursement loss would represent $214,000 for Schenectady County, $209,000 for Albany County and $38,000 for Montgomery County. .................>>>>.....................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01902&AppName=1
