Defense lawyer says witnesses against officer were drunk
But one woman testifies she feared for off-duty city officer's girlfriend

By LAUREN STANFORTH, Staff writer
Updated 07:25 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012

SCHENECTADY — Two women saw an off-duty city cop grabbing his girlfriend by the neck and hitting her on St. Patrick's Day last year, the prosecution said Wednesday at the start of Schenectady Officer Eric Peters' trial.

But the attorney for Peters said the women were drunk, and there's no way he could wield such power over his girlfriend.

"She outweighs him by 50 pounds," said defense attorney Kevin Luibrand in his opening statement. "She's a big sturdy farm girl."

Peters, who has worked for Schenectady police department for 12 years, is charged with unlawful imprisonment and attempted assault.....................>>>>.................>>>>.................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....27.php#ixzz1jF9WH3JN

So, now, if you're a Sch'dy cop and you have an obese girlfriend, it's OK to give her a beatdown for the heck of it.  "She's a big sturdy farm girl."  Wonder what they would say if she was other than white or other than obese.

Woman: Cop never hit me
Testimony in off-duty officer's attempted assault trial continues

By Paul Nelson, Staff writer
Published 08:36 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012

SCHENECTADY — An argument over treatment for a bloody nose was at the heart of an incident between a city police officer and his girlfriend, the woman testified during the second day of his trial on charges of attempted assault.

Testifying Thursday for the defense, Bonnie Crandall said her fiance, Eric Peters, compared her to her "bull-headed" father when she refused to seek treatment for a bloody nose.

Crandall told jurors that at no point during the expletive-laced row in and outside her parked pickup truck on a city street did Peters ever grab her by the neck and hit her, as prosecutors contended during opening arguments.

Peters is charged with attempted assault and unlawful imprisonment, both misdemeanors that could end his 12-year career on the police force.

The case is being tried in Schenectady County Court before City Court Judge Mark Blanchfield.

The police department also is trying to fire Peters through disciplinary charges.

"At any point, did he lay a finger on you?" defense attorney Kevin Luibrand asked Crandall.

"No," Crandall replied. "If he had laid a finger on me, he would be picking up his teeth," she said she told the prosecutor, Christina Tremante-Pelham....................>>>>................>>>>....................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Woman-Cop-never-hit-me-2496851.php#ixzz1jKrPzixq

Yeah right.....the answer is NO......women recant their stories all the time when they are in abusive relationships...

is there a psychiatric report???    is there any other investigation into this???.....does the cop have a history of anger??

What a waste of money........waatch some of the shows on TV  especially Drs' shows....then draw your own conclusion.

To narc on a cop is not correct....and is threatening...

Jury acquits cop of attempted assault
Schenectady officer also found not guilty of unlawful imprisonment

By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer
Updated 09:15 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012

SCHENECTADY— A jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before acquitting Schenectady Police Officer Eric Peters of two misdemeanor criminal charges stemming from a St. Patrick's Day altercation with his live-in fiancee.

The prosecution had argued during the 4-day trial before City Court Judge Mark Blanchifield in Schenectady County Court that Peters, 36, grabbed Bonnie Crandall, 43, by the neck and punch her several times until she ended up with a bloody nose. At the time the two were inside her tinted pickup truck outside their Park Place apartment near Union College.

Both Peters and Crandall took the stand for the defense and acknowledged there was a lot of yelling and screaming after he made derogatory comments about her father, with whom she is especially close. The couple, however, denied Peters, who has 13 years on the police department, ever hit her and that instead she suffered that bloody nose after an accidental collision with her boss as the two danced at a Troy pub on the night of March 17................>>>>................>>>>..............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....12.php#ixzz1jRDtEx3v

OK, Great, but you have to see how when it isn't, there is usually much more media to it.  I'm not saying it makes anything better, but the fact is that when it is a minority that is the victim, we're supposed to feel so much more for that victim.
