ALL X-in-law apartments are rented out!!! That is a no brainer. And rotterdam is full of them.

And hell, let's call it a 'family apt'. What if someone's aunt, uncle, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, niece, nephew needed a place to stay while attending college, or rehabilitating after surgery and needed care? Or perhaps you could just rent it out to a stranger, but have them say they are a relative? That is being done all the time too....k?

Where will it stop?

They will eat MV up and spit him out if he even proposes it again. Cause then you'll see everyone coming out of the woodwork proving that most in-law apt's are being rented out!!!!! The code enforcers will be getting calls and complaints daily!!!

Better be careful what you wish for?

It's pretty simple ....... spouses and children are easy exemptions to verify and follow...via ss#/marriage/divorce/birth certificate/residency/tax returns.

In-law apts are not verifiable. Again.....MV really doesn't want to go there. There are many folks in schenectady county that had what where once in-law apartments that are now rented out to 'anyone'. But at least they are paying the full tax on the property.

And in-laws usually are bringing in $$$$ either from SS, Pensions etc...that can help ease the 'burden'. There are also many elders that owned homes, sell them and move in with their kids, bringing with them that chunk of change from the sale of their home.

For a conservative, MV is sounding more and more like a liberal socialist........no? This is just yet another 'fluff proposal'.

It appears that the cons have been hanging around the dems a bit too long!! They too are catching that 'mental disorder'.

Spicy why are you speaking about crotches?  This seems to be a theme you can relate to. I think this is one of your short comings, so to speak.

did mike viscusi promise you a tax exemption?

DV doesn't get any tax exemptions.  He is not a responsible indepent mature adult.  You've heard of mama's boy type.

The Democrats are fielding a great ticket for the  Election 2011 -- I am certain that the party will do well in every race within the county.

Well Blacky that kind of venom is exactly why I would never win an election. I could never stoop to such vulgarity.  Dependent children do not equal taking care of your parents when it comes to tax breaks. I think many have done a good job on this forum trying to explain the difference.

I do agree with a flat tax concept, but it will never happen in this society.

As MV's handler you need to help him come up with sound cost saving measures for all, not tax breaks for a few.

MV truly wants to win so help him win.

I'm not his handler...I just have a few brain cells in my head...unfortunately many in town (you included) dont have... Perhaps if you cared half as much about your parents as you do about trees you'd be better off... We offer all sorts of tax benefits to people trying to be "green" whatever the FU(K that is. plant a garden on your roof? tax break! plant trees, tax break for carbon buy back... these are A-ok!? But a tax break for helping your parents is soooo wrong to you? grow up think big picture and then come back to the big boy table.

This isnt about supporting viscusi its about supporting good policy. But too many of you evaluate policy based on the proposer, not on the policy itself.

He's not gonna win on the platform of raising taxes for the many just to lower taxes for the few.

And who's going to continually monitor what apts are REALLY in-law apts?

Ain't gonna happen!

Well it you have a 'few' brain cell....mv obviously has none!
This is definitely all about supporting MV. Because the in-law policy stinks of corruption at it's best!!
Good luck on this one!!
