MALTA -- A Rotterdam man at a Price Chopper on Thursday was determined to run off with $559 worth of groceries when three security guards and a shopper struggled to take him down, State Police said.
Joshua Welch, 39, filled a grocery cart and tried to flee security guards as he looked to leave the grocery store without paying, troopers said. A shopper and two more security guards got in a scuffle with Welch until they subdued him and police arrested him.
Welch was charged with third-degree assault and petit larceny and was sent to Saratoga County Jail on $1,000 bail.
