First, and foremost, Baptists RARELY refer to "Communion".  In fact, they intentionally avoid using the term because of the conflicts with the Catholic Church, they instead call it the "Lord's Supper". Baptist churches are autonomous however, and practices may vary by congregation or region (or even the divisions of Baptist Churches), but the term "Communion" has never been said or mentioned in any Baptist service I've attended.  The very term, Communion, indicates Unity - which is not in practice with the Baptist Church (Protestant) - in fact there's major divisions. Martin Luther started this protesting Roman Catholic orthodoxy - thus the term "Protestant" and Baptists are a spin off of this belief.

The Catholic Church teachs that when the bread and wine are consecrated in the Eucharist, they cease to be bread and wine, and become, respectively, the body and blood of Christ. Thus the term "Communion", bringing the faithful together.

Second, it is rare to find a Baptist church where The Lord's Supper is observed every Sunday. Most observe this at most monthly, or quarterly.

This story is nothing more than media spin - using the term "Communion" to give the IMPLICATION that it's related to the Catholic Church. It is not.

I'm not catholic.............and I didn't see this as any implication to the catholic church!  Nor do I think that was the intent.

MT--I thought your explanation was quite good.  A lot of Protestant churches offer Communion--Lutherans, Presbyterians, and UCC as well as Baptists.  Rev. John Miller, UCC minister, probably gave the best explanation of Communion being offered to all at every church--real ecumenical witness.  He blew away the other theologians participating in the conversation.  I suspect the "minister" in the clip was Southern Baptist and a far cry from the American Baptist Church.

Your reflection was excellent.

First and foremost most born again evangelical Christians do not consider Roman Catholics to be Christian .  The The Assn of Fundamentalists Evangelizing Catholics http://www.angelfire.com/ky/dodone/  is an outreach that targets Roman Catholic people with the Gospel of Christ).
