SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Merging school functions eyed

BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter

Seven local school districts and Schenectady County are seeking a $45,000 grant to explore sharing business operation functions.
Participating school districts are Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Duanesburg, Mohonasen, Niskayuna, Schalmont, Schenectady and Scotia-Glenville. They are joining with the county to apply for a state Local Government Effi ciency Grant to explore ways to collaborate on the functions such as business administration, auditing, purchasing, personnel, centralized stores, printing and mailing.
Schenectady City School District officials are taking the lead on this grant. Districts expect to hear back on the grant application within six weeks of its submission on Wednesday. The grant requires a $5,000 match, which will be split proportionally among the districts based on enrollment.
The county school districts are already sharing services. They submit a cooperative bid for copy paper, pool supplies, bus parts, toner cartridges and heating, ventilation and air conditioning fi lters. Scotia-Glenville spokesman Robert Hanlon said this grant would allow districts to explore savings in other areas such as purchasing rock salt. All districts buy it and pay a certain amount per ton. Joining together would create a bigger order. “The more you buy, the better the price,” he said. .......................>>>>.................>>>>.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01300&AppName=1

they will 'band together' under the guise of saving $$ when all it is is 'purchasing power' as a monopoly to shut out other school options because
anything else wont be able to exist with all the contractual savings (vote purchasing/union bullying) of the public schools.......

Instead of cuts-"consolidation". The latest DEM buzzword. No one gets laid off and only one hand gets greased. Less straw to make bricks.
