I had a friend tell me he heard at the March 7th Schenectady City Council Committees meeting that Open Stage Media did a test.  They went "Live" on Channel 18 and it appears it may have also went on the web simultaneously.  Joe Piazzo, OSM Technical Manager presented this info to the council.

I missed the live feeds didn't know about them. I am not not sure if the following meetings will also be aired "Live" or that was just the first test. My friend sent an email to OSM to find out.

As much as I will never forgive OSM and City Council Committee of Stratton, McCarthy and Morris for the way they treated Mr Harnden so horribly without the respect and recognition for all he did...

As much as I will never forgive OSM for the misrepresentation that SACC-TV "the public" would be a part of OSM...

As much as I hear of this first of carrying the Committees meeting "Live" on channel 18 and possibly the web... it appears it is all done without the "public" being involved, it is supposed to be "Public Access".

I am still wanting to hear if OSM Public Access is 501(c)(3) nonprofit?  Being 501(c)(3) the public could be involved if set up as a "Members" organization

I remember a time we couldn't even get the meetings recorded and played back on Public Access SACC-TV. I tried to let the city know the advantages of it.  They just didn't appear to want to budge at that time.  I got a sense the city wasn't too supportive of SACC-TV.

In 2008 I went up to the podium during the POF for the first time in near 15 years and presented the following:
Quoted Text

If our forefathers had not stood up for what they believed in…we would not have the freedoms we do today. With this freedom comes a responsibility, that of being involved in our community and government process. This is why I am here tonight. As a resident, I believe that the Committees meetings are not just for the legislators, but for the community to be informed also.

None of us can accurately respond with our concerns and offer ideas about legislation if we are not aware of what the legislation is about. Many are unable to attend Monday meetings; there are no minutes on the city website; the minutes cannot be e-mailed to us and most folks can’t get to City Hall during the day to pick up a copy….How do we become informed of what legislation that our Council is considering prior to the Council Meeting? Televising the Committee Meetings is the best way.

Let us not forget that Schenectady was the birthplace of the first television broadcast in North America. It seems strange and an insult to those who went before us that we are so resistant in 2008 to use this technology. These meetings should be broadcast….and subsidized….by the city.

I understand that Time Warner is required to give a certain percentage of its revenue to the city…in excess of $600,000.00. Over half a million dollars – in fact, only $600,000.00 was budgeted for. In 2007, we received around $680,000.00. In comparison, televising the committee meetings is $5,000.00 to $6,000.00. Why can’t the funds needed be found in this resource?

The role we played and the impact we had on the formation of this country…is awesome. The inventions that changed the world just overwhelms me with pride to say…I live in Schenectady.

What concerns me?....Our short sightedness about moving forward to being another shining light, do more to open government to the people…using the technologies that are here. Our County televises its proceedings. Why can’t we? I spoke with each of you, listening to your concerns on this subject. One concern was if a private citizen records these meetings – what becomes of the copy – can it be edited and rebroadcast? There is a resolution to this. Have the city subsidize it.

It is important to open government to the people so we, as a community, can be more involved. Something that I hear, all too frequently, is that folks don’t get involved. We are trying to. If our forefathers had not stood up for what they believed in…would we have the freedoms we have today?

It is WRONG that Public Access is not "public".

Gary McCarthy took the public out of public television and inserted Mercury Morris. Getting the genie back in the bottle is difficult.

Exactly!! It's not enough we have this rag that spins line a dreidle-now we have government controlled television. Maybe this "producer" should concentrate on improving City Council coverage and not empty chair coverage? The same DEM morons with their mitts ruining everything.

With the reps finally getting their act together, and the independent candidates popping up all over the county, this may finally be the beginning of the end of the government control tax and spend dictatorship!!

I am not sure I understand "Producer should concentrate on improving CC coverage?"  Benny what exactly needs to be done to improve City Council coverage?  Looking for your ideas.

Both meetings hit the air 5 times during the week following them. We can carry our questions to the rail based on what we learned at the Committees meetings now available to the citizens via TV and from their web presence that Piazzo indicated will be happening.

With only one channel to work with, TW wouldn't fix Channel 18, no support from the city and a full schedule of programing SACC-TV wasn't allowed to do this.

John Harnden and Pat Zollinger knew all along these meetings had to and must be a part of the  governmental process.

J. Harnden with a group of volunteers and SACC-TV were the PIONEERS of this initial endeavor with the live feed of the City Council meetings.. Did it for decades and he SHOULD have been included in this change but reality says he wasn't and that things will never be the same again.  The city will never say thank you to him in public, they are too ashamed to do it. I believe they would only do it if they were pressured into it and not doing it with sincerity. We all witnessed the horrific way OSM treated Harnden.  Pat Zollinger let the truth be known.  Without her we wouldn't have heard and even better seen the "whole" truth of the treatment of Harnden.

At the Committees meetings now it is reality we can see everyone. Can hear just about everything.  They even moved where the presenters from the various agencies and departments speak from so they are on camera facing it and can be heard.  Never was like that before.

I have no idea if those in attendance at the Committees meetings can hear any better.  No idea if that was ever addressed.  Only someone attending them would know and maybe one of those folks is here on the board and can tell us.

I think maybe a look see at the March 7rh Committees meeting will show you how far it has come.

Committees meetings taping started with Pat Zollinger proving that it can be done with a small hand held camera uploaded to the web.  She is still there recording the whole meeting.  I am glad she is. The facts are the facts there is TV coverage of the Committees meetings now and I think it should no longer be put on Pat's shoulders.  Although I bet she would never back away from it.  That is her decision to make.

It is a Stratton, Mcarthy and Morris thing that pulls the strings now being they are the Cable Committee on the city council.  This is a fact, it is a reality we can't do anything about till Stratton and McCarthy are gone in city government.  Stratton is gone to watch the water goes up, the water goes down.  I think McCarthy will always have a hand in our government even when his term is up on the council he is so meshed into all that goes on in this city.  I don't trust his motivations.

It is now a reality that the meetings are taped and put up on OSM.  It took the public, citizens like Harnden and Zollinger to prove to this city administration what the people are demanding and can be done.

SACC-TV was never given any real support from the city or from TW to do such a thing in regards to covering the Committees meetings. It was also proven out by the fact TW would never would fix channel 18 so it could be used.

It is over with the old SACC-TV but there is a new SACC Inc. that will not let the issue of the PUBLIC being involved die.

The reality...both meetings are covered now so we can see and hear them live.  The public has nothing to say in it, everything is done in secrete  but it is being done.  Although I did hear OSM is going to create boards.  They haven't said much about that.  Like how are board members chosen?  By who you know in city government?  Again secrecy.

Now the meetings can be seen by TW cable subscribers and those that use computers no matter who their ISP is.  But what is really happening... In the back of my mind I keep thinking of the history of Germany.  They were no longer allowed to have an army so instead Hitler presented a carrot to them.  Had them formed in a military design to provide employment and food to all in the country.  Didn't take much to have the shovels and hoes to be exchanged to rifles and cannons.

What is happening here with OSM? What is their goal?  I really truly wonder. Too many politicians in the mix, too much secrecy.

Benny it is time for folks to get off their buns and get to SACC Inc meetings help them push the issue of the need for the PUBLIC to be a part of PUBLIC Access.

SACC Inc. meets every 3rd Tuesday 5:30pm at the Price Chopper Community Center.  In my opinion it isn't right to expect Pat Zollinger to keep doing it all, get all the changes made in Schenectady that need to be done.  She has never said she won't or wouldn't continue to tape the Committees meetings I just think it is time to give her more support. I am hoping SACC Inc. will be the force behind making change now, time will tell. Continue on what J. Harnden and the volunteers and her proved can be done.

I try hard to always present the truth as I know of it.  The following are a true facts.  Pat started coverage of the Committees meetings being taped and uploading them to the web.  Barbara Blanchard played a role being she is on the council in getting the committees meetings taped so they could be played back on TV.  Blanchard constantly bringing it up at the committees meetings.

Me ducks now.

Should ask to include media center at the $$$$ Library expansion to allow for dispersment of council/legislative meeting....it shouldn't be at OSM...
pretty soon the library will be a big open space as technology moves along at lightening speed.....there will be space to encompass this....just ask the
library board and press for the future....we cant just sit back and spend millions on a dinosaur called a library....

it should be called a public tech/media center......where's the franchise agreement???? who is listed? how is it listed? what are the regs?....
I dont think OSM actually has a leg to stand on other than the 'authority' of the metorplex authority which ends up being just a bully......

Good point but the technology is already there at OSM.  It is too late now.

Why waste money to start over and build another set of studios and all the infrastructure involved.  I know the way of the book is declining every day and there will be less and less space needed at a library but to start over when something is already setup seems like a waste of money.

The library has DONORS.....let 440 state eat the cost....take the franchise $$ and make it public at the PUBLIC MEDIA/TECH CENTER....

ever watch Eureka....they have 'public meetings' on their cellphones/Ipads....they dont enter a building and gather....interesting concept
the $$ going to OSM is just an antiquated money grab......

it's a show on Sy-fy network but you can get it no netflix or on line.....it's cool.......future thoughts and living...but they try to make
it as 'normal' in todays terms.....I couldn't verify the science in it (I'm sure it's not up to par with the scientific community) it's probably
tv style science.....anyhow real neat and entertaining with a spin.....
