Right...a businessowner who is trying to sell her business is going to say ANYTHING to get it sold. The last review about Chez stated that the place was empty and there were no waitstaff. Bottom line, between rent and the DSIC fees (which is more like forced mob pay-off money) no independent business can survive Downtown.

I take that back, if you are getting a Plex tax-free ride and have an IV of taxpayer funds, you're set for life.

Ya, you're right.  It's only been a closed corporation for about a year, the sale price has been cut by >65% ... and business was SO good that the owner, a "HE" hasn't been able to find another sucker to come into a property, selling a product that has already failed at least once.

Ya, I'd go into catering too -- if business was that bad.

Heck, maybe they should open a new business there - "Renaissance Pizza"

Except that in the Gazette article about her decision to leave Chez Daisie -- she quite specifically said that it was NOT for lack of business.   She quite clearly stated that she wants to pursue catering instead -- period end of story.

Yeah...I'm really surprised nobody jumped on such a GOLDMINE.  A business owner would NEVER stage an interview claiming how GREAT and profitable the business she put up for sale is./tic  And the Gazette ALWAYS fact checks.

I know someone who loves (loved) that place, and she was very sad to see it do so poorly.  My friend said that there is rarely many people in there, no staff, and they stopped garnishing the plates.

Do you really expect the person who is trying to sell the business to advertise it isn't going that well?

There is no empirical evidence to support the thesis that her business is doing well.  My friend is seen just the opposite evidence - and if business was great, she wouldn't have any problems selling it.

One of two things will happen:

1)  It will just cease to exist, the place will shut and be vacant.
2)  Some other business will move in there.

I read her words in the gazette.  YES, I read that she wanted to have a catering business and that it would be difficult to do both.   I can fully comprehend that  and accept that.  

I know that many people here are implying that the owner might be faking the truth about the Jay St business.  Unless we could all look at the books, we would not know one way or the other.

However, DV, please tell us WHY no one is interested in buying a business that allegedly is so successful?????    And tell us WHY Sifo would lower the asking pricer to next to nothing if the business is so successful?  

If you are so concerned about her business .. buy it for yourself.

If you are so concerned about the building's owner selling the building .. buy it yourself.

Until you actually DO something constructive and positive to actually BUILD UP your community --- my message to you is  ---   SHUT THE HELL UP.     The rest of us - who love and care for our community - are sick of your psychotic and uninformed ramblings.

It's such a smash-that's why it's for sale and the sales price has been lowered $55,000! Still no takers!

Chez Daisie sold, slated to become a coffee shop

    SCHENECTADY — Chez Daisie, a French bistro on Jay Street, has been sold and will reopen as a coffee shop, according to the former owner’s mother.
    JoAnne Sifo wanted to sell the business so she could concentrate on her growing catering business. The website for Chez Daisie said Sifo will begin catering in September.
    Sifo’s mother, Josephine Sifo, said her daughter was traveling in Europe and was unavailable for comment. “After she sold the business, she wanted to take some time off,” she said. “She is sad about closing the business.”
    Sifo said she did not know how much her daughter sold the store for but the new owner plans to reopen it as a coffee shop.
    JoAnne Sifo was asking $85,000 initially for the restaurant and its stock, although she dropped the price. She opened it in 2005.

What kind of fluff piece article was that?  There was no comment from the owner, the buyer, no name of the new coffee shop, and no selling price.  It was the owners mother talking about her daughter traveling Europe. That's considered news worthy?  I thought journalist were taught to report the who, what, when, where, and why?  I think that article missed on all of those.
