A suggestion in a Letter to the Editor is NOT a proposal ... just a suggestion.  So to say it was a proposal is not a fact.

It is a fact that several sites have been or are being considered for a Municipal Center -- the V Stream property, the Curry Road Shopping Plaza and the old Grand Union ....   at one time the "Burdeck St triangle" was even under consideration.

I propose we have a Comp Planning Sheriff....oh wait...I'm an A$$hole.....never mind.....

ROTTERDAM
Site is eyed for police station

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Supervisor Frank Del Gallo wants to investigate whether the former Grand Union property off of Hamburg Street would be a good place to site a new public safety facility for Rotterdam.
In the coming months, the town will fund a $2,000 study to determine if the property is adequate for a new facility to replace the crumbling structure now housing the police department and justice court on Princetown Road. Del Gallo said building the new structure on the now privately owned property would tie nicely into an upcoming state-funded $5.7 million reconstruction of Hamburg Street.
“It’s worth looking into,” he said.
The company selected for the study — Clough Harbor & Associates — is familiar with the issues surrounding a new public safety facility. Rotterdam has funded two detailed studies with the company investigating site location and building design.
In 2004, the town commissioned a $38,700 feasibility study that looked into moving either the police and courts or the town offices to the 11-acre former Curry Road Shopping Center. The project was ultimately scrapped in 2007 when board members decided to develop the property for commercial and residential uses.
Board members under former Supervisor Steve Tommasone used a $25,000 state grant to fund a $35,900 design study in 2008. The concept was to produce plans for a proposed structure so the board could seek out property suitable for the design.
Del Gallo said the latest study is merely a starting point to see if the Grand Union site could sustain a building, since there’s no funding in place for a public safety facility. He said one possibility is that the town could enter into an agreement with the county to locate the proposed centralized dispatch center in the new building to help defray some of the costs. .........................>>>>......................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01103&AppName=1

Ahhhhhh! The PAYBACK begins!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I love these studies that cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that end up going nowhere....and take years in the process.....when the economy sucks, and we have no $$ to begin with...

What exactly has kept businesses away from the property to begin with?... a New supermarket there would be nice...

The bottom line is that this is A BIG JERK JOB to try to make the owners of the OK Union building feel warm and fuzzy for the socialist democrap party. It don't matter if it is tax payer dough. it goes a long way to securing votes and financial support in the next election.

Like a carrot on the stick, the bunny rabbit chases to no avail. However they may end up as hasenpheffer in the end.

I am not sure the group knows they got led down a primrose path with promise, promises and more BS promises. They have to make it on their own and all the government intervention in the world won't change things for them...sad that they think it will.

Sorry, I guess I'll have to look somewhere else for a definition of proposal.  Could you tell me the definition?

Here's what dictionary.reference.com states it is:

See, and who was I to think that a proposal and a suggestion were the same.  Just let me know what the actual definition is, PLEASE.  I want to be educated.[/quote]

What can we expect from someone who obviously is an unemployed flunky.  Had to have failed vocabulary classes.   No ability to comprehend what he reads/hears --like the video of McCarthy insulting a speaker was posted but he keeps saying it's an alleged comment, and also when the police released the autopsy results of that guy who died in the fire but found weeks later, the results from the PD itself were poted, but he says he hasn't seen any results from an "official" source (the PD apparently is not an official source of it's own work and announcements).   When one doesn't graduate until he is roughly 30 years old, well, we then understand the lack of ability to know the meaning of words

The folks that bought the old Grand Union surely thought it would be a great investment. It was a risk as all investments are. In hindsight, it probably wasn't such a great investment. Except for the overflow of MFH, a relocating bank and a tax funded gin mill, what and who is looking to move to rotterdam?

The fact is, the town (taxpayers) are the ones that may be on the hook for this property for a police station as suggested. However, that may prove to be another pipe dream. So year after year, administration after administration.....tens of thousands of dollars of taxpayer's money wasted on study after study, when they know damn well nothing will come of them. Why? It takes big bucks and the taxpayers are already spent.

Why would the taxpayers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, to purchase the old Grand Union property for a police/dispatch center when they already own the old curry road shopping plaza?

GB is correct.........they are just dangling a carrot.

I dont think the taxpayers have to 'purchase' anything.....pipe line has grants/consolidation....the freakin' pipe dream will be the lack
of other development ie:sidewalks/sewers/nice road/shops etc........

this could be the matching part of the road grant

if rotterdam was smart they would bond the bldg and all equipment and charge the county rent and use the profits to paydown all debts then when it is old a tired sell it to the county for 5 times its worth - and score big

we should be good at this based on the number of apartments being built
