Quality is more a matter of opinion than fact-- Having patronized the Edgewood on numerous occasions -- I can tell you that my family was disappointed many times with the service and the food. I remember a particularly bad meal there in the late 1970's.
As for the Recovery Room/Berkshire Bank complex -- I think it is a great project .. replacing the run down Capitol Plaza .. and I have not yet been to the Recovery Room in Rotterdam to check out its service and food -- have been to the one in Amsterdam and was pleased --- but I never said it was my favorite restaurant or even in my Top 10 favorites.
You would have to drive a bit to get to most of my Top 10 restaurants -- and the moderator doesn't like it when I post there names and locations.
Edgewood was great and did have great food, otherwise it would not have lasted so many decades. DV only speaks badly about a business when it doesn't receive tax dollars. He tries to suck up to Savage-Gillen-Stratton-Jordan-McCarthy by praising millionaires businesses that put residential homeowners in the poor house by making the financially struggling homeowners pay the taxes for the millionaires.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Disappointed "many times".......why would you keep going back if it was disappointing? That was dumb! One bad meal would have kept me away for awhile, and I would have let Mgmt know. A second bad meal would have sealed the deal and no return. You really amaze me with your stories....do you stay awake at night thinking them up so you can post them? So what was that particularly bad meal 30+ years ago that you can still remember???
You nailed it- he makes all this crap up based on politics and a distorted world view. Now the service was bad! LOL!! All I ever heard from folks was that at that time, (when this was a middle class working town that lived within it's means,) that the working people immensely enjoyed themselves there with the basic home made, family style food and family service that the place was know far and wide for. That was before people needed a gilded palace and $250.00 a plate wedding parties to outdo their friends. Shipments of frozen premade portions were not carted in on a Sysco truck then. The menu was the same for 20 years and consistent. People wanted a good meal with home made salad, and sauce and zitis, roast beef, and a few drinks (or many) and live music. They didn't live in the Disneyworld fantasy that today's society has everyone thinking they need to emulate (whether they can really afford it or not.) Today that business model is not up to the "WOW" factor the spoiled brats expect, lets face it. You have the TGIF model as the "in" thing now.
The "corporate" style restaurants and the nouveau riche weddings in banquet halls covered in fake stone and such are strictly a result of people watching too much TV and seeing how very wealthy people squander their dough. DV is a perfect example of why family owned small business is doomed because the ruling class has no respect or consideration for it.
I went to the RR three times, each time the order was screwed up and the food was lousy. Scarboroughs is SO much better. But of course they don't have $200,000 worth of audio video gear to keep the ADD brats satisfied either. And they are moving so we now have nothing left but subsidized corporate options left for a quick bite.

Sometimes one is invited to events at a restaurant and one can not refuse the invitation-- quite frankly after the bad incident in the 1970's -- I only returned to the Edgewood when I had to attend functions that I could not refuse to attend.

I can only tell you what my experiences were of the place. If you had great experiences there -- then I am happy for you.
I don't miss the Edgewood and I won't apologize for having a different opinion on the subject.

We are still whining about a new Pioneer bank replacing an eyesore? I thought you guys were the free-market business-can-do-whatever-it-wants types? If Pioneer wants to move to a new location, then that is their right. I'm still reading insinuations about the Metroplex money, but has any proof been found that Pioneer is moving using taxpayer money for the move?
There are some smart people who work for banks. I'm pretty sure that a group of people in the Pioneer organization figured it was worth the expense to move out of a not-very-visible location in the Hannaford plaza to a neat, new building on the main drag. I will be happy to see a new building there. It might encourage other businesses and residents in that area to tidy up. Furthermore, just because many basic services by banks are done electronically now, some people like to have real people handle their banking, and the banks are looking to add higher-end services to generate fees that offset their costs for free basic services like checking accounts or ATM transactions. This is why Pioneer needed more space as I presume they will have specialists to help people with retirement plans, business loans, tax preparation services, etc. If you don't like the fees, then walk down the street and take your business elsewhere.
I'd have to guess that most rotterdamians will be pleased to see a nice building such as Pioneer bank at the old edgewood location. It appears that they question if there is tax payer money involved. It appears that they also question the remarks that this move is credited to 'politicking'. Giving credit to one party over another. The gazette stated that the move was planned long before this political party took office............If memory serves me correctly.
It seems like that these are the only issues.

The real reason Pioneer moved was the rent at the Hannaford Plaza is obscenely high. Add to that, the better location out on Altamont Ave. But make no mistake, this is a shell game move. No net gain for Rotterdam except to get rid of an eyesore. But just think, they could have done that years ago when Olive Garden was sniffing around, but no, they needed to protect the homegrown businesses when in reality, they wouldn't have been threatened anyway.

I find it hard to believe that an Olive Garden would fit there with enough parking, but I have an untrained eye for that. I still think this is a good thing, if only to get rid of the physical and psychological eyesore.

like increasing fees so they can purchases puffy chairs for our higher end fat a$$es.....you're right they do plan...like stewarts/kmart walmart and the rest.....my issue is the lack of planning for the town...so it's a freakin' bank building...I'm so damn excited.... the banks downtown certainly didn't keep downtown from turning into a hole all those years did it?????? and it ain't gonna help here....
small town living with 'city high-brow banks' what a patina and class....it's just exuding up the streets......

Actually, it's true that all Altamont Ave is now is businesses that have been shifted around. First, you have a business leaving (Dunkin Donuts) which moved up to Curry Road. That was replaced in it's previous location by Pizza Hut Delivery, which itself is another shift from their sit-down location. That same sit-down location is now a used car dealer. We do a lot of just shifting things around in this town, and then there isn't really much of a change over time. Hopefully it won't take much time to backfill the empty bank in Hannaford Plaza.
That, along with the bar (Scarborough's) moving out to a backstreet up in Latham (that's right, it's not on ANY main strip, where it's moving up there. Guess being on a back road is better than staying in Schenectady County).
