Proposal to register bikes comes under criticism BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
Advocates, business owners and politicians are blasting legislation introduced this week by a Queens assemblyman mandating that New Yorkers register their recreational bicycles. A bill by Democrat Michael DenDekker would require people to pay an initial $25 registration and inspection fee and then $5 annually to re-register their bicycles. The bill does not have a Senate sponsor. He also has a bill that applies just to commercial bicycles. Assemblyman James Tedisco, DGlenville, said DenDekker’s legislation “gets the award for the worse piece of legislation of the decade. This is anti-children, anti-health, anti-environment. It makes no sense whatsoever.” Brian Qehoe, program manager for the New York State Bicycle Coalition, said the coalition opposes the legislation. “It is not necessary. It is an unnecessary burden that will not produce any benefit to society,” he said. DenDekker did not return a phone call for comment. However, he told the Gothamist he introduced the legislation following complaints from his Queens constituents about bicyclists “driving down streets the wrong way, driving on sidewalks and actually being very reckless. And their concern is that when they do this, there is no way to report them because there is no way to identify the bicyclists, per se, so that has been the reason for it.” DenDekker told the Gothamist: “This is just the beginning aspect of this piece of legislation. I’m sure there will be a lot of public debate on this, and that’s good because that’s what we need. We need to discuss it and figure out what the future is of bicycles in the state of New York, not just in the city.” DenDekker said he never consulted with cyclist groups or the state Department of Transportation about the legislation’s effects.....................>>>>...................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01201&AppName=1
This is a joke right? He would fit in on our pathetic County Legislature. Landslide Savage should jump on this new "economic development" idea. The DEMS can never cut any pork but love these types of proposals.
The democrap way. Soon we all be living on a collective and we will all wear little gray suits and caps. Democraps wonder why true Americans perceive them to be a dangerous threat to freedom in the heartland. All they need to do is play back a tape of themselves and their ideas and look in the mirror if it doesn't crack.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
