You folks are a joke --- jealous of the successful strides made to improve Downtown Schenectady. You folks couldn't even run a lemon-aide stand.
Having an endless flow of taxpayer's money is the easy part. However, issues like safety, roads, taxes, cut spending, good schools and jobs is the hard part. Something the liberal socialists obviously know nothing about. Only fleecing the taxpayers and throwing their money at the 'select few'! DVR scare me. You will applaud ANY so called improvement even if it means raping the taxpayers. scary! |

With 100 MILLION taxpayer dollars you can't run a profitable coffeehouse, can't run a profitable theatre and can't even broadcast public meetings correctly. Forget about lemonaid stands DEMS couldn't give away free coffee. Please name the new retail Death Ray/Savage have brought Downtown? Crickets chirping. A translation company flees from Downtown to Cohoes taking 100 good jobs. The City can't even pay its operating expenses. Successful strides?-lol The other joke is that no private business is negatively impacted by Key/Morris Hall. What it easier grabbing a bite next door or walking blocks in freezing weather to find an open private restaurant? The truth is coming out. There has been no repayment of ANY County taxpayer money from Proctor's and to add insult to injury they now try closing other taxpaying food service businesses. Where is any taxpayer dividends from Metrograft? A bottomless pit that keeps expanding.
Well - first of all -- Downtown has a lot more shops and offices and people working there than it did 10 years ago --- so i won't argue that point anymore. Second -- in your post .. you say that " you can't" run a coffee house or theater or broadcast public meetings ----- just to clarify --- I didn't get the $100 million and I am not running any of those 3 .. BUT -- If I were running them, I am sure that I could run all 3 profitably and maybe not even need all of that $100 million. At the moment, i am busy with some other projects .. but if they need someone to replace Mr. Morris .. I would be available. |

You said that there were many successful Downtown projects. Who? What? Where? The theatre lost over a million dollars in the last reporting period. Again name the new retail Death Ray has brought in over the past 5 years? Crickets and more crickets. Mercury Morris keeps hanging on to the "educational" exception. Coming soon at Morris' Coffee house a spelling bee! What is educational about running a tax free catering hall? This adversely effects thousands of County residents. We are fed up with our tax money flushed down this rat hole to prop up Mercury Morris and his expanding commercial empire. None of this has anything to do with his core function-run one theatre profitably. |

Usually those who volunteer at proctors, get to sit in on the show.....NOT THIS TIME.
All volunteers must exit the theater before the show starts and then re-enter when it's over.
That was a Disney requirement that Morris agreed to. |

Who else might be receiving "comped" tickets for their support of Proctors? |

If you can't see the many projects that have been done in downtown Schenectady in the past 10 years --- it really is your problem ------ all you actually have to do is OPEN YOUR EYES and look around -- start with the big red building at the corner of Nott and State --- and continue down State Street and LOOK around.
If you still can't figure it out --- you had better go get your eyes examined. |

What about the rest of the city that's falling apart as soon as you drive past Nott Terrace or below Erie Blvd and State. The roads are a disgrace, the vacant buildings are everywhere, crime is rampant, school system is sub standard and taxes are one of the highest in the whole country. What's to like about that? Yes we agree that the 2 block area around Proctors was totally rebuilt and looks real nice but at what cost and return to the taxpayer for the millions of dollars invested have been realized? |

The question was about Downtown -- my answer was about Downtown. You really have to stop this stupid nonsense of attacking my answer to one question by then attacking me personally on every other issue under the sun. BTW -- the roads in other cities and towns in the area are also in bad shape --- there is a patch of Washington Ave over by SUNYA that was just rebuilt a couple years ago that is much worse than any street in the city of Schenectady. |

Not attacking you just trying to explain to you why spending all the money on just a 2 block area on State St while the rest of the city falls apart may not have been the best way to spend that amount of money. |

There's more to "downtown" than a 2-3 block area around Proctors. |

Kinda sad when you stand in front of Center City, look to the left and look to the right and think "I can't believe millions of dollars have been sunk into less than a city block". Quite heartbreaking and far from a miracle.
Then looking at Proctors, how can the City of Schenectady be so taken advantage of while a theater makes profits from tax exemption upon tax exemption? Maybe a non-profit competing with for-profit businesses stinks even more than the third-rate off-off-off Broadway productions. Let's see when Morris has his salary outed....then maybe the masses will see how much their tax dollars are being wasted. |

downtown is fluff and stuff for a county that doesn't house or have the $$ needed to support it.....you cant live in the county of Schenectady in anything more than a 4 room apartment on $10.00/hour.....you also cant raise a family in a fairly nice neighborhood on 2 people working fulltime with kids each making $15.00/hour......it's a joke....then pay HOW MUCH for lion king tickets????....I know folks have priorities but downtown WAS BUILT TO CLEAN OUT THE CITY..little by little pushing the $0-$15/hour person out...if they stay, it's only because of services..... |

You don't have a clue, sometimes. That s the problem, many of you need history lessons. Mertz got beat in a primary. He stayed and ran to split the vote. Fair enough. You win a republican primary by having a track record as a fighter for conservatism. When you get out from behind the computer and get a sword in your hands then you can tell me what it is like. They way 3 or 4 of you rally to John is telling. If John were so independent then why isn't he running this year? Where is he? As invisible as he was until someone called him and asked him to run a decade ago. Oh yeah, his state job might be lost...and I might lose business for taking a stand...Right, so what. It is the risk you run to be free. So when the gang of you COMBINED has put up enough time, sweat, blood and CASH OF YOUR OWN to match mine over 20 years, and will risk what I have risked, call me.
The problem with the conservative movement is that so many of you fell off the turnip cart yesterday when Obama got elected, yet so many of you were ASKED to get involved and recruited in the past and said NO. So don't blame the "republicans" for not doing anything. YOU are the people. YOU are the republicans. YOU expected 15-30 people to do it alone and you were unhappy with the results-now once a gang of you have gone out and played spoiler, you think that no one else ever worked as hard. You all need to go to school on that, wow.
good for you....I think the point we are all trying to make is that the spirit of the 2 parties is lost on gumba mentality...yeah, we all get to vote and this eeks out of some electeds a$$ to satisfy some immediate need of some special group...then something eeks out of another elected's a$$ to satisfy some buddys...and the future is where?...we have the same entitlement system the same chains on our ankles and the same gumba gangstas that just keep party hopping to their own tune and poketbook.... and,,,,it's not just local.....it's definitely the state....everyone knows politics isn't the cleanest machine but it's F'EN choking us TO DEATH I'm tired of it....the cast system (built within the guise of capitalism that works better than any other) is becoming limited,,,very very limited....I'm not stupid,,,I might be ignorant of alot of things, but I have a good mind and a mind that weighs things out and listens and IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF ONE PARTY OR THE OTHER....that would be rule #3 divide and conquer.... I'm not going to sit back and give this 'team' or that 'team' anything until both prove it's NOT ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THE GUMBAS ..."a wo/man looks in the mirror to see him/herself and walks away and quickly forgets what they have seen." |

There's a new term for this taxpayer rape "hakuna matata". This is all over the Gazetto today. Hakuna apparently means letting a nonprofit pig takeover one private business after another pulling them permanently off City tax rolls while militantly refusing to repay ANYTHING. Zero loan repayment-zero PILOTS. No PILOTS-No Peace. It's sickening to see the total collapse of the Gazetto, They mindlessly repeat the nonsense of Mercury Morris and Death Ray like it's actually benefiting the City/County taxpayers. At least have the basic decency to give a small PILOT as Union and Ellis have done. |
