I agree. NOt the role of govt' to support gambling trips.  And when your former director was there, she refused the requests for gambling trips.  As I recall from my mother, when she would go away with the senior assoication, Jack Shiely would have gambling going on in his room.  But those were association trips not town trips.  The budget line for transportation in Rotterdam should now be dispersed to include transportation to medical appointments.

I dont disagree......right now we are behind the 8ball....and there has been no foundation planning/building.....

local businesses can donate to the seniors like they do to little league/soccer/softball etc.......get it off the tax roles and get rid of some COLA.....where's
the future for THE ENTIRE TOWN (not just the few).....drinking too much COLA causes obesity...ie: the town budget......

Here a a couple of thoughts.............

First....In rotterdam, Mohonasen has a pool for both kids and adults that taxpayers are already paying for.
Second.....Local schools offer sports programs that taxpayers are already paying for.
Third........There are enough businesses in Schenectady county that are tax exempt that could well afford donating money to community programs.
Forth......Community programs are just that...programs supported by community donations.
Fifth.......the problem in rotterdam is that rotterdamians make EVERYTHING political!

No businesses will not donate in the way necessary.  They may sponsor a thing here or there but who is going to help pay for a bus $1,000?

Try to use that pool when you want.. It is far from a public pool but us Mohon district residents are paying for it.
The public use hours are so restrictive and small I don't bother.

when was the senior center first started? let's start there....

why? by whom? how much? who joined?

and the future of a town cannot get bogged down in a senior center
1. it's segregation
2. if it's for fun---not needed
3. if there are more life assisting services needed then we have chosen the wrong path
4. children are future--as awful as that might sound to our ears, it's a fact

if we want a community center that serves all...we should disolve the senior center(we should be able to say that to our neighbors, screw the few who leech
off of it),,,,build foundations with strict comp plan(no more"there ya go buddy 10-4") utility/style/class....after that we can crown it with a community
center for all....

we keep allowing for the MFRH without foresight into roads, sidewalks, sewers, parking lots, schools etc......we worry about environmental impact(JOKE)
but not about our own future for fear of OFFENDING OUR NEIGHBORS...we are adults....let's plan...realistically,,,not by what we think is owed us, we
deserve or who we know.......

Re: the pool at Mohon.  The Meyers School in Albany, one of the newest built schools, has a pool.  They now have a senior night that your former Senior director lobbyed for with the district and the mayor.Took her some time, but she got buy-in from the politicos in Albany especially the Republican ones who are few and far between.  That was announced before Christmas. Tell somebody in Rotterdam to get on it.  Should be a lot easier to pull off in Rotterdam than Albany.

and as for businesses donating to $1000 trips....the casinos are eating very very well.....let them do ALOT MORE pandering/paying....I'm not sure tax$$
should be counted as helping seniors gamble......

it's like paying for a NASCAR licensed shirt then going and paying $3.50/gal for gas.....stupid.....
