This should have happened already. The whole senior center dust up is hilarious. The sky will fall in if DM is off the payroll. DM has more hats than Sharon Jordan. Waiting for her to be appointed to the County IDA and the useless Metrograft bored. Somehow City Hall will have to get by without her tremendous financial expertise. In her sleep she is running 3 businesses and leading the town DEMS.
Rotterdam needs to get rid of the old dirt. These names keep recycling over and over and over again! Rotterdam needs new faces and new names. These folks have had their day in the sun. In with the new and out with the old. |

DeGeorgio???? Why is he out of money. Wonder if FDG counted his fingers when he shook hands on that deal. DeGeorgio will be facing off for Town Clerk with DM. My suggestion is pack up and move out of Rotterdam. This is a $hit $how. |

were the job shuffles that FDG did include the typest at the senior center? I would certainly hope so. Exactly what job does the typest perform there at $37,000/year and for what/whom??????

As I don't live in Rotterdam (my Dad does though) are you talking about the senior center on a corner of Hamburg St. that I believe is also a nursery school? I jsut looked it up and it is. Now is it definitely closing? Just wondering as the American Legion Post my Dad is a member of has meetings there. |

Rotterdam tossed around the idea of closing the center a few years ago too!
Crime is rising, paying for an awol TC, assessments still incorrect, no als contract yet.....and the senior center takes priority?????
It's a waste of taxpayer's money. But after rotterdam makes this a major political issue, like they always do........... who knows???? |

I'm going to use these facts in my case when I stop paying taxes. Boycott taxation, tell them why. Our reasons are good enough for High courts. |

Obviously, you have never been to the senior center --- first of all .. the seniors who go there are VERY active and are anything but "pre-institutionalized". Also - the center is used for a day care and for youth rec programs in the summer. So -- once again --- put down the "herb" and actually find out about what you are talking about BEFORE you post your senseless factless drivel. |

you just made my point.....we are paying for ACTIVE folk to have fun.......so it's not my job to make sure someone has fun in their retirement/winter years......if you want to volunteer go ahead.....and yes, I have been there many times.....so it is not a necessity it's a feel-good option of which we CANNOT AFFORD......there are better ways to use our resources....expansion before foundation is just stupid..... I work in a nursing home and that is debilitated....the senior center is a cruiseship for retirement....GET OFF MY BACK....we cant afford it better planning for infrastructure then crown it with a community center.....right now having a senior center is segregation and labeling it's either a necessity or just fun.....there is a difference |

The problem with the senior center is that it is used for everything but the the real work needed for seniors. Jack Shiely will fight for the seniors because he gets free trips outof it for the senior assoiciation just as Louise Brass and Lois Yunker do for the town. Who is filling their need for transportation? Who is lobbying to keep EPIC? You people are a mess over there. |

I agree! The government has made provisions for the elderly in need. The towns folks already pay for it in their state and federal taxes. They don't need another layer. For those seniors really in need there are lobbiest crawling all over the government begging for money for elder care. And they are getting it...........TRUST ME!!! There are elder care services/volunteers everywhere. It is not the role of government to ensure monthly casino trips, or weekly bingo or card games for ANYONE! It is NOT and entitlement! For anyone who thinks casino trips, bingo and card games is the role of government.........then don't refer to the seniors as 'poor seniors'. It's all fluff and has been made political! |
