Highest taxed in the state?

It's higher than Beverly Hills, and that's a fact.

THEY ARE OUT OF MONEY!!! Yet they fail to collect taxes from businesses that are supported by the taxpayers!! They have dug themselves such a hole that there is clearly no way out. They spent the farm and now there is nothing left to bleed. And ya wonder why they are all jumping ship???

I don't envy the next administration! It will be HELL and will take YEARS to try to reverse this mess....if ever!!  Where will they even begin?? Schenectady needs a leader that has the balls and thick skin of Christie!

Those in power could cut back the welfare benefits that are paid to residents to the levels that are paid by other municipalities.

Drove up/down Union St. on Sunday from Elmer Ave. to Nott Terrace.   The condition is deplorable.  This was BEFORE the winter as well when they were working on it last fall.   As many Proctors visitors come into town via this route, the Lion King goers are definitly in for an early Safari experience.

Moody's lied.....

Moody's should be prosecuted, right up there with Michael Savage, who despite all his bravado, Jon Stewart managed to bring to tears, for knowingly spreading misinformation.

BUY! BUY! BUY!

Your money? Buh bye. The market CRASHED within a week.
He's just another corporate shill, not unlike Glen Beck, or the famous draft dodger, and CURRENT drug addict Bush Limbaugh.

Standard & Poor'? If you trust them even a little bit, you won't be thinking of yourself as "standard" , you'll be quite confident of thinking of yourself as being "poor".

It's pure Darwinism. If you're dumb enough to believe any of that nonsense, maybe that's just the way GOD planned it.
Maybe you just weren't meant to survive.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm busy packing, so that I may move out of Niskauna, and into downtown Schenectady, because I heard a rumor that there was a "miracle" happening there.

Just kidding, I'd sooner move back to the Bronx, which my family fled when I was 7.

Truth be told though, the only "miracle" I've ever experienced in Schenectady, was that I didn't get carjacked.

: )

Once I was driving near Emmett St. Stopped at the stop sign and four men came up to my car and tried opening the doors. Thankfully had them locked. I stepped on the gas and heard a guy scream, I had run over his foot.

Didn't call the cops because I'd probably end up being charged with something even though I was  defending myself.

I had the same problem when stopped at Nott and State when Mohawk Honda was still there.....they wanted to know if I wanted to buy drugs...He showed me some white powder in packets in his hand.....I just turned forward and wondered how desperate this guy was in daytime like 5pm to do that, and
ballsey enough with all those other cars at the light...not to mention the jail right across the street......

strange world we live in.....

He probably didn't need to be "ballsey."  Who knows, he may have just come out of the building across the street, either as a resident, or as an employee.  You know that there's so much going on in Schenectady that they don't see what's happening right outside their own door.  They didn't look like they were being pulled from an evidence bag, hopefully.

Holy potholes batman.

Eastern between DeGraff and Not Terrace is unreal.  They just patched it a week of so..  I noticed that you can see the different levels of applications of asphalt the holes are so deep.  The problem is created when we get all the freezing and thawing but is it really?  The problem is they never rebuild the foundations they just top over what was there.

Really poor stop gap method of road care but hey it's Schenectady.

Probably it is the same contractors getting the bid all the time. The city gives it to the lowest bid, that company knowing they have a job for life because they will be rebuilding the streets forever.  Thus what looks like cost savings isn't really what it appears to be.

I have to be honest. There are some problems that Olsen inherited. Poor road construction.  But there are others he is responsible for.

Not speaking up to the council showing the dollars and cents of why it is imperative that streets are done right to start with.  In the long run the city is going to save thousands and thousands of dollars. But even if he did plead his case well I don't think the city would agree after all isn't it interesting how it is the same companies always getting the bids.  This practice of going to lowest bidder should be changed.

Tough issue.  It is, I believe, by law that it goes to the lowest bidder.  The idea was to prevent political patronage.  If it's not the lowest bidder then who get's the bid, who decides?  Would each and every little project go before the voters?  How much would that cost to have polls open every time another project is done.  I don't know exactly how, I mean, let's say 50 streets are going to be done in a given fiscal year.   I don't know whether the city packages that as one job or perhaps five projects of 10 streets each, or is it 50 separate jobs.   Volume generally keeps prices lower, look at Walmart, large volume, low prices.   So I would say that 50 projects done all by one company would cost substantially less tha 50 separate jobs.

I think something along this line was raised at a council meeting sometime during this year.  I think it was an issue of minorities not getting "enough" jobs and it may have had to do with something about plumbing.  I think it was mentioned during POF and a speaker (or several) may have said that if the city split up the jobs--I don't know if that meant bid for each different job, or, in the context of plumbing and jobs for the city would it be split by the task within the whole job (think of installing a new toilet---one person to go down to your basement and shut the water off, another to unscrew the toilet from all it's connections, another company to take it out, a fourth contractor to open the box for your new toilet, a fifth to carry it to your bathroom, etc--get the idea).

Separating jobs into smaller ones, and getting rid of the lowest bidder, would result in higher cost which in turn results in higher taxes for the people (or cutting someplace else)

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
